I went on holiday to one of John’s favourite places, I got a glimmer of my old life back – but there were sad times too

I’VE just returned from my surprise trip to Marbella with my best mate Michael. We stayed in a hotel that John and I visited a lot. I know some widows would find that too painful, but I found it really comforting. I wanted to relish the memories of when we’d been there before. If you can describe travelling as a love language, it was definitely ours. We were really good at going on holiday. Some people get so stressed with travel, but not us. In fact, once we went to Santorini for a week and enjoyed it so much that we stayed for a month. We just kept saying: “Let’s not go home,” and extending our break. I know we were so lucky to be able to do that – I’m so grateful we did, and I have those wonderful times to look back on. I’m not travelling in the same way any more, but I do have a group of pals to go away with. I’ve known some of the girls on these trips for years, so we always have a giggle. I love meeting new people, too. Sometimes it hits me how different my life is now, but when I’m away, it makes me think: “Oh, maybe it hasn’t changed that much.” It feels really meaningful to me to do things that John and I always enjoyed so much together – it’s like a glimmer of my old life. One of my favourite things about being on holiday is getting a really good night’s sleep, but I’m hoping to have that experience at home now, too, as I’ve just splashed out on a fancy new bed. I’m back in Ghost House, and while for the most part I want it to be the way it was when John and I were there, I’m sprucing some bits up. I’ve moved our original bed frame into the third bedroom, though I’m not ready to part with our mattress yet. We always used to eye up this super-modern, black wooden four-poster bed frame from Restoration Hardware, but never pulled the trigger as it was so expensive. John used to say: “It’s a lot of money, so are you going to love it?” And, you know what? I do love it. It won’t come till Christmas, but I’m worried winter might be quite bleak and hard, and it is good to know there’s something nice on the horizon, so I’ve committed to it! When my business partner Charlie and I started No.98 Beauty, I said: “Imagine if we could get Zendaya to use it.” I think I manifested it happening, because her hairdresser Coree Moreno used No.98 Beauty The Glass on her hair at the Spider-Man: Brand New Day premiere! It’s an anti-frizz humidity-sealant spray that makes your hair look like glass, and it smells amazing. People I haven’t talked to in years reached out to congratulate me. It’s such a major milestone for us, and I could almost feel John cheering us on. It feels special as we met Tom Holland at Le Mans last year, so John was invested in them both. It’s been a good reminder that while the last few months have been so sad, there have been happy times, too. When I have bad days, I must remember to dream of better ones. I’m in a Mediterranean mindset and drizzling it on everything. Treating myself to. . . a car valet: As per the viral social trend, for me, this is worth the money. Storm Valeting always makes my car gleam.
