However, in season 4, he makes an intriguing confession that marks a new milestone in his overarching journey. While Reacher season 4 has a lot going on, one of its most compelling story beats revolves around the primary villains, Lila and Amisha Hoth. Lila, in particular, is a fascinating character because she is the first villain in the series to deceive Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher. Even after having a romantic stint with her, Reacher did not realize she was working against him. Instead of merely ignoring his oversight, Jack Reacher surprisingly accepts his mistake in season 4's episode 5. He confesses, "I was wrong." Considering his story arcs in previous seasons, this is an interesting new development for the character. Reacher Admitting He Was Wrong Is A Major Milestone In previous seasons, Alan Ritchson's Reacher lived by his unwavering confidence in his own judgment. He even constantly recited his own credo of "details matter." However, if details matter so much, it is hard not to wonder how his instincts and investigative abilities completely faded around Lila. He should have started doubting her right after she revealed that her "cancer story" was made up. In previous seasons, there have been moments where he has taken a few missteps. None of his previous mistakes, though, have threatened to cost him his entire mission. Even when his enemies have proven their innocence, he has always ensured that he does not entirely trust them until he has all the evidence in hand. Sampson, too, does not get a free pass from him in season 4. When it comes to Lila, however, he makes a grave slip of judgment. He, too, realizes this, and, for the first time, takes full accountability for his actions. Although Jack Reacher remains fairly stoic even after learning the truth about Lila's motives, his "I was wrong" confession establishes that he understands his own limits and potential for fallibility. Perhaps in future installments of the series, Reacher could even look back at his season 4 mistake and tread more carefully around the people who seem innocent at first. He seems sharper than even when it comes to identifying key details in his surroundings. However, his instincts seem to be failing in situations where he has to say the right thing at the right time. For instance, in season 4's opening scene itself, Alan Ritchson's Jack Reacher intends to help a woman he believes is a suicide bomber. To his dismay, he ends up telling her he is a cop. He hopes that his lie will help de-escalate the situation and prevent Anna from harming herself or anyone else on the train. Unfortunately, Anna feels even more helpless and panicked when Reacher tells her he is a cop. Anna was hoping to take revenge on the Hoths for killing her son. But Reacher's lie makes her believe her cover has been blown, which leaves her with no chance to complete her only mission. It is still a little unfair to blame Reacher for Anna's death, given how he was only trying to help her. But he, too, could have maybe handled the situation a little more carefully.
