I put a new lash primer to the test against two bestsellers – one left me seriously impressed

I’VE never seen the point of a lash primer. It always seemed a waste of valuable minutes in my morning routine, until a new UKLash product made me do a U-turn. Here’s how it compares to two bestsellers. BUDGET This Ordinary Lash Curl Finisher Clear Mascara is hairspray for your lashes Credit: Unknown THE Ordinary Lash Curl Finisher Clear Mascara, £9.40 for 10ml, cultbeauty.co.uk I can only describe this as hairspray for your lashes. Sign up for the Fabulous newsletter Thank you! The clear formula reminds me of the clear mascara my mum bought me as a tween when I desperately begged to wear make-up before I should have been. Although, this one actually makes my lashes look longer and keeps them lifted all day after I’ve used a lash curler. Unlike the UKLash product, it doesn’t have a tint, so it’s not one I’d wear alone, but it makes my mascara look better, which is arguably worth the extra step, especially at this price. MID-RANGE UKLash Lash Lift Gel truly delivers Credit: Unknown UKLash Lash Lift Gel, £20 for 7ml, uklash.com This is it, the product that made me change my mind and meant a change to my morning make-up. The brand labels it a “lash lift in a bottle”, which I’d usually take issue with, but it actually delivers. Most read in Fabulous The formula is part serum – with nourishing vitamin E, glycerin and hexapeptide – part primer, and contains a caramel dye to tint lashes over time, too. Under mascara, it helps separate lashes and ensure a lengthened, clump-free finish – but it’s wearing it alone that sealed the deal. It keeps lashes curled all day, and the tint gives just the right amount of polish so I feel put together without looking like I’m wearing make-up. LUXURY This Too Faced Better Than Sex Foreplay Lash Lifting And Thickening Mascara Primer feels more like a mascara than a primer Credit: Unknown Too Faced Better Than Sex Foreplay Lash Lifting And Thickening Mascara Primer, £27 for 8ml, lookfantastic.com The black colour makes this feels more like a mascara than a primer so why bother to spend the time (or money) applying another product on top. It definitely makes my lashes look longer and fuller – which is great for a night out when I want added drama – but because of the pigments it can get clumpy, which is a pet peeve. You will need an oil cleanser to remove it, something to consider if you intend to wear it regularly. PICK OF THE WEEK THERE have been so many great, affordable perfumes launched it’s hard to keep track – but Boots’ Last Note captured my attention. It’s the retailer’s first own-brand perfume range and each of the five scents is £12.99 for 50ml. They could be mistaken for perfumes five times the price. Vanilla Portrait may well be the most popular, but I prefer Echoes Of You. Available in-store and at boots.com. Comment now
