DESPERATE to feel confident in a bikini to celebrate turning 40, Jeni Dubock was determined to shed some pounds. Dropping from 22st to a sleek 11st, she spent £6,000 to go under the knife to have excess skin removed, but when she woke up, she was horrified at what she saw. The 41-year-old described it like a ‘Ken Doll bulge’, but really, she didn’t find it funny at all – in fact, she was distraught. Jeni, from Mansfield, Nottinghamshire, tells Sun Health: “Even though I’d lost all of that weight, I couldn’t wear a bikini because it hung out the side. It literally haunted me. “I just felt really ashamed of it and like I wanted to hide it. I felt deformed because it stuck out so much.” Jeni had lost weight by paying £10,000 for a gastric sleeve in the UK. At size 26, she had struggled with her weight her entire life, and was determined to shift the pounds before her 40th birthday. She halved her weight in less than two years, dropping eight dress sizes to a size 10. Afterwards, she went to Turkey to remove the resulting loose skin, having a tummy tuck and breast lift in December 2024. But it wasn’t the result she was hoping for. Jeni says: “I didn’t have one issue after the plastic surgery, but I just had this monstrous bulge almost straight away. “Mine was such a fat pouch, because I was pulled so tight with my tummy [tuck], it just made it stick out even more. I couldn’t wear certain leggings because it stuck out too much. “I wore compression pants to push it down a bit and hide it. It almost made me feel like I was concealing a penis. “I even nicknamed it the ‘mit moo’. “I said to my husband I’m going to go back to Turkey and get it fixed.” The children’s charity manager paid £1,600 to have a monsplasty, or pubic lift, in May 2026. The mum decided to have a second surgery to get rid of the bulge, and she now feels confident enough to wear a bikini Credit: Unknown What is a FUPA? A FUPA – fatty upper pubic area – is an area of extra fat that accumulates above the pubic bone. It can cause self-esteem issues and even discomfort for some people. There are several causes for this: Genetics – genetic predisposition significantly influences where the body stores fat Weight fluctuations – drastic weight gain or loss can lead to the development of excess fat in the upper pubic area. Rapid weight changes can also affect skin elasticity which makes it harder for the skin to retract after weight loss Pregnancy and childbirth – a FUPA can form as fat accumulates during pregnancy to support foetal development. The stretching of the abdomen can also lead to a more pronounced FUPA after giving birth Ageing – during the natural ageing process, the metabolism slows down and hormonal changes can cause increased fat deposition in certain areas, leading to a FUPA Hormonal imbalances – hormonal changes, especially those related to oestrogen and cortisol, can influence fat accumulation in the FUPA area How to get rid of a FUPA You can reduce fat in the upper public area through lifestyle changes such as adopting a balanced diet and exercising regularly. In more drastic cases, liposuction can be done to break down fat cells. And in other instances, a monsplasty – pubic lift – can be performed to remove extra skin and fatty tissue. Now, Jeni says she can confidently wear a bikini for the first time in her life after finally feeling ‘normal’ following surgery. Jeni said: “It was an instant ‘oh my God this has disappeared’, it was incredible. “It just looks ‘normal’ now, I don’t feel like I have a bulge. “I did go to Cyprus for a family holiday five weeks later and I wore a bikini every single day, it was the first time in my whole entire life. “This surgery and weight-loss journey has changed my life. I do feel really proud of my journey. “Do whatever you need to do to make yourself feel good.”
