I knew she liked vampires – then she did something that made me scream

She put her fingers in her mouth, pulled out her fangs and wiped the blood across her face (Picture: Getty Images) Sitting in bed and looking up at my date Lucia*, I screamed in horror. I watched in panic as blood poured horrifically out her mouth. Tilting her head, Lucia looks back at me while standing on her bed, in her goth, vampire-themed bedroom. She smiled. ‘It’s Halloween, relax’, she let out a laugh, jumping down from the bed. She put her fingers in her mouth, pulled out her fangs and wiped the blood across her face. It didn’t work, and I regretted coming back to her flat after going to the queer themed club that night. Because things did not get any better from there on. I got compliments as soon as I walked into the queer bar in east London (Picture: Getty Images/iStockphoto) Ask Metro Use AI to go deeper into the stories you care about – powered by Metro and trusted publications. Earlier that night, I was excited for my first ever gay Halloween. I had come out a few years previously, but hadn’t been acquainted with the queer world of dressing up as the most obscure and weirdest costume you could think of. I was getting ready with a few friends, and we had all decided to go as funniest quotes on the internet. I went through a few memes, before deciding to dress up as Tyra Banks yelling ‘I was rooting for you’ on America’s Next Top Model, with an awful wig and wide eyes. And it was a great call – I got compliments as soon as I walked into the queer bar in east London, and I felt welcomed into the fold. I was a proud, weird Halloween bisexual in-joke. The night went well, and I spent a lot of my time looking at other girls and chatting to my friends – the Babadook in drag, Angelica from Rugrats, Adele at Carnival and a sexy Lorax. A few hours in, my Babadook friend began talking to a group of goth vampires that walked in, asking about what makeup they were wearing and that’s when Lucia caught my eye. The rest of the night involved them pushing me towards her, as she confidentially flirted with me (Picture: Getty Images/iStockphoto) She was dressed as a vampire, like her friends, but she was definitely the sexiest of them all. Her long hair looked magical and her big smile was enchanting. I couldn’t stop staring at her, and she noticed. So did my friends, and so the rest of the night involved them pushing me towards her, as she confidentially flirted with me. I wasn’t shy, but a lot more reserved than her – she growled and showed her fangs when she said hello to me, which is the moment I should have walked away, but I was bewitched. Laughing, I introduced myself, and explained my outfit – which she stopped me half way with: ‘I know, we all know’. We didn’t last in the bar long, having attempted to make out with her fangs prodding my face, I guided her out of the bar and she suggested we go back to hers since she lived so close. Meet Sydney Summers By the time we got back to hers, I had gotten skilled at kissing someone with fake fangs, having only received a couple of scratches from the cheap plastic. But there were worse things in store for me. Walking into her flat felt like entering a different world. Her room was painted a deep purple, and velvet was strewn all over it. It was actually quite beautiful, but that was when I realised she wasn’t wearing a costume. Lucia really believed in vampires. She sat me down, and showed me her collection of dolls. I shuddered at the site of their dead eyes staring back at me. She then read me a chapter from Anne Rice’s The Vampire Lestat (Picture: Mike Coppola/Getty Images for AMC/AMC+) That wasn’t all, she told me about how vampires could possibly be real, and that in the 18th-century there was a ‘Vampire Epidemic’ in Eastern Europe – where villagers exhumed bodies that had traces of blood around the mouth, in a case of mass hysteria. She showed my makeup tutorials on youtube where people transformed into vampires, asking me if ‘I would want a makeover’. I did not. She then read me a chapter from Anne Rice’s The Vampire Lestat, looking up at me eagerly after every line, to see if I was as enthralled as she hoped I would be. I was not. I pulled her into me, blood still on her face and started kissing her (Picture: Getty Images) That was when she jumped on the bed, put a blood capsule in her mouth without me realising and growled at me. It was a chaotic half an hour, to say the least. Telling myself I was just being a prude, and that I should be accepting of all subcultures, I stayed. Part of me was also aware I had put so much work in, and wanted now to have sex. So I pulled her into me, blood still on her face and started kissing her. She moaned and kept trying to bite my neck as I pulled her onto the bed. When we did have sex, it was surprisingly vanilla, and I instantly left to go home. I couldn’t believe what I had to go through, for a pretty mediocre lay. When I got back, my friends were already at home, hosting an after party and I told them everything, as they howled in laughter. ‘Is that why you’re completely red?’ one of them asked. I looked in the mirror – her fake blood had covered my face, neck and thighs. For days later. *Names have been changed.
