I enjoyed every minute of my night of wild sex – now it’s coming back to haunt me

Was this one night stand a sign or a mistake? (Getty/ Metro) Some one night stands are just a raunchy night to remember — others end up causing chaos. This week’s reader was newly single, and had hours of X-rated fun with a family friend. The problem is, she’s now back with her ex and terrified that her ‘night of lust’ could be found out. Should she keep schtum? Or perhaps her boyfriend’s reaction could show her whether getting back together, is really the best plan? Keep reading to find out more, but before you go, check out last week’s dilemma, from a man who who’s tempted to sabotage his upcoming lavish Lake Como wedding. The problem… My best friend and I have been inseparable since junior school, so it seemed perfect when we started going out with two guys who were also best friends. That was three years ago, and in the intervening time her relationship has been everything that mine hasn’t been; stable, loving and strong. New here? Meanwhile, although there have been many good times, my relationship has been very up and down. The problem is my partner’s drinking; he regularly gets hammered, and we end up having huge rows. The last straw was when he turned up plastered at my parents’ 30th anniversary party last month. It was so disrespectful and embarrassing, I dumped him on the spot and sent him packing. Some of my parents’ friends from university came, including one couple who brought their son. He seemed sweet, and as I was lonely and miserable, I spent most of the evening with him. The party was in a hotel where he had a room, and long story short, we ended up having a night of wild sex. I thoroughly enjoyed every minute, but in the morning we just said our goodbyes and didn’t even swap numbers. Of course, I confided in my friend about my night of lust, which we both laughed about and agreed was perfect revenge. But predictably, a few days later my ex came round, full of remorse, promising to quit the drink. Deep down I still love him, so I’ve accepted his apology and agreed that if he stays on the wagon, we’ll try to make our relationship work. I’m now in a complete panic because I’m terrified that my little ‘indiscretion’ will get back to him. I know I can trust my friend not to say anything, but to my horror she has told her partner, and thinks he might spill the beans. Should she confess or keep it a secret? Be honest – the truth always comes outCheck Stay quiet – it'll only make things more complicatedCheck Love juicy stories? Need some sex tips to spice things up in the bedroom? Sign up for The Hook Up Newsletter now The advice Let’s be honest, there’s a real risk of your boyfriend finding out anyway, so it looks as though you’ll have to confess. Just tell him the truth – that you were lonely and miserable and to your mind, you were unattached at the time. It was a night of fun with no long-term objective, it’s not as though you made plans to see this guy again. If you volunteer the information now, there’s a good chance that you’ll be able to smooth everything over. If your boyfriend really loves you, he’ll be able to see the part he played in all this and move on, however difficult it may be at first. Make sure he means it when he says he’s going to manage his drinking. If he really has a problem, then AA is a good place to seek help; there are sure to be other support groups in your area, too. On the other hand, if he loses his mind over your fling, then maybe it’s time to end the relationship once and for all. You say things have been up and down for the last three years, so is he really your forever partner? Finally, I’m not going to lecture you about contraception or STDs. I hope you took care of all that. But if you didn’t, get yourself checked out. Laura is a counsellor and columnist. Got a sex and dating dilemma?
