‘I do whatever it takes’ – Former UFC world champion working as a delivery driver and launches landscaping business

FORMER UFC strawweight champion Jessica Andrade has had to take on another job while she recovers from an injury. But despite the number of fights under her belt and taking part in three championship fights, she does not have enough money to get by. Sign up for the Sport newsletter Thank you! Andrade told the Brazilian MMA podcast Direto de Vegas: “I work as a delivery driver. I deliver meals and things like that. I just pick up orders through an app and make the deliveries. “I do whatever it takes. I’m not afraid of hard work. I can do just about anything.” It’s been a rocky few years for Andrade who, alongside not getting the results she wanted inside the octagon, also went through a divorce. To pay for that, Andrade fought five times in 2023 – way higher than the average fighter competes. In fact, five is the record post-tournament era. She shares that accolade with Kevin Holland (2020), Neil Magny (2014) and Roger Huerta (2007). We need some extra money.” The UFC has been criticised countless times for their pay structure with Jake Paul one of the primary crusaders for change. The UFC gives about 20% of revenue to fighter pay, while boxers get about 60% of revenue from their events. In exceptional circumstances with big names like Conor McGregor, Daniel Cormier or Ronda Rousey in the past to name a few, they are paid exponentially more. But to make matters worse, UFC president Dana White has moved into the boxing space with Saudi chiefs to front Zuffa boxing. That promotion has already chucked millions at names like Conor Benn, Johnny Fisher and Shakur Stevenson leaving many UFC fighters bemused. Comment now
