I-Day: Heavy vehicles from Gurugram barred from entering Delhi from August 12 to 15

Gurugram police have barred heavy goods vehicles from entering Delhi during specified Independence Day hours. (Photo: Pexels)Heavy goods vehicles from Gurugram will not be allowed to enter Delhi during specified hours from August 12 to 15 because of the Independence Day celebrations, police said on Tuesday.According to a traffic advisory issued by the Gurugram traffic police, the restrictions will be in force from 5 pm on August 12 to 1:30 pm on August 13, and again from 5 pm on August 14 to 1:30 pm on August 15.Police said vehicles carrying essential commodities such as milk, fruits and vegetables will be exempt from the curbs. Ambulances and fire tenders will also be allowed to move during the restricted period.Passenger vehicles going to the airport will be allowed to travel towards Delhi through NH-48. The advisory added that private vehicles can also use the Dwarka Expressway to reach the airport. There will be no restriction on vehicles travelling from Gurugram towards Palwal, Nuh, Faridabad, Jhajjar, Rewari and Rajasthan, police said. However, the entry of heavy goods vehicles into Delhi through NH-48 and other national highways will remain completely prohibited during the specified hours.The advisory was issued after DCP Traffic Prateek Gahlot held a meeting with traffic officials and inspectors on Tuesday to review preparations for Independence Day 2026. Police said Gahlot directed officials and personnel to remain alert and ensure smooth traffic management during the celebrations. The Gurugram traffic police also appealed to heavy goods vehicle drivers and owners, along with truck and canter union representatives, to cooperate by avoiding movement towards Delhi during the restricted hours.
