Speaking at India Today Conclave Mumbai 2026 on October 10, Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam — best known for leading the state’s prosecution of Ajmal Kasab in the 2008 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks trial — reflected on his life’s work being adapted into the film Prahaar: The Untold Story of Ujjwal Nikam. Nikam praised actor Rajkummar Rao for his immersive portrayal, emphasising how the actor played the part so convincingly that legal colleagues frequently asked if Rao had lived with him to understand his courtroom mannerisms.Ujjwal Nikam, when asked about Rajkummar Rao playing him in his biopic, said, "My first condition was there would be no glorification of any character, including me. And all the real names would be used. Let me appreciate Mr Rajkummar Rao as he lived like Ujjwal Nikam. My colleagues praised his performance. Many lawyers who watched the film asked me if he lived me. I said, 'No, he did not live with me for a single day'. Because Raj is usually very silent and would speak softly."While praising Rao's "body langauge," Nikam added, "This is Ujjwal Nikam. I certify him completely. He could go to court on my behalf. He can play my role."Special Public Prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam represented the state in several of India’s high-profile trials, most notably leading the prosecution of Ajmal Kasab, the sole surviving gunman from the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks in 2008. Nikam’s presentation of evidence and courtroom arguments led to Kasab’s conviction and capital punishment, marking one of the most prominent national security cases in Indian legal history. Led by Rao, Prahaar features an ensemble cast including Wamiqa Gabbi, Sikandar Kher, Jaideep Ahlawat, Nassar and Ashish Vidyarthi in prominent roles.Meanwhile, Rao's last theatrical release was Maalik.
