An X-ray revealed multiple radio-opaque blade pieces inside his stomach, following which he was referred to the hospital’s Medical Gastroenterology department.A team led by several doctors then performed a minimally invasive gastrointestinal endoscopy to retrieve the objects. The doctors successfully removed three sharp pieces of razor blades from the teenager’s stomach. The procedure was particularly challenging because of the risk posed by the sharp edges. Doctors had to carefully remove the pieces while avoiding possible lacerations or perforations to the stomach and gastrointestinal tract. “The procedure was challenging because there are always chances of internal injuries in the form of lacerations and perforations,” Dr Ramesh Kumar said. The hospital said his recovery after the procedure was uneventful and that he was currently doing well.Senior health officials said the Medical Gastroenterology team at OGH had experience in performing endoscopic procedures to remove different kinds of foreign bodies from the gastrointestinal tract.- EndsPublished By: Yashna TalwarPublished On: Sep 5, 2026 12:56 IST
