Hundreds of balaclava-wearing protesters block roads around Port of Dover

A large group of protesters wearing black and covering their faces with balaclavas have shut down roads, blocking the Port of Dover. The protestors have blocked roads in three locations, meaning no traffic can access the port. Eyewitnesses at the scene said it looked as thought there were 300 men. National Highways said in a statement: “A large number of protesters are blocking three separate locations bringing all traffic entering the Port of Dover to a standstill.” It added there are delayed of up to 45 minutes and four miles of congestion. Police are “engaging” with protestors at the scene. The force said in a statement: “Kent Police is aware of a protest currently taking place at the Port of Dover. “Officers are in attendance and engaging with protesters.” Eyewitness Nathan Ditchburn told Kent Online he spotted the group when he was commuting to work at 6:45am. He said: “I would say there are around 300 men, maybe more. “They have blocked off every entrance and exit of the Dover port area, and Jubilee Way is blocked as well. “It will be causing huge delays for the ferries today.” P&O Ferries ensured customers who missed their boat this morning could go on the next sailing. It said in a statement on X: “Please be advised that access to the Port of Dover is currently restricted. “If you miss your sailing, we will get you onto the next when you reach our check-in.” The A20 has been closed in both directions between A256 York Street and A2 Jubilee Way.
