Elizabeth Meriwether's Furious is a gripping crime thriller starring Emmy Rossum as Alice Black, an FBI agent tracking down a mysterious woman whose violent campaign against powerful men becomes much more complicated than a conventional murder investigation. Furious isn’t the first crime drama to focus on a serial killer, but it is one of the few series that has a woman committing these gruesome crimes. Thankfully, the Hulu TV show handles the complicated topics it introduces carefully, further demonstrating why the streamer and audiences are eager for more. Furious Is One Of 2026's Best Shows So Far Furious is easily on the list of the best TV shows of 2026 so far, largely because it understands that its premise isn’t entirely new. With television producing countless stories about damaged detectives chasing psychologically complex killers, Furious stands out because both sides of the investigation begin to look like products of the same broken system. Alice isn't simply hunting a monster. Catherine isn't simply a monster either. Their stories overlap, forcing Alice to question whether the legal system is actually capable of delivering justice to those it has failed. That moral uncertainty is one of the show's greatest strengths. Emmy Rossum's Alice Black is arguably the show's best character. Alice is tough, intelligent, and capable, but she is also deeply flawed. Rossum doesn't play her as the stereotypical tortured detective who drinks too much and has nightmares. The series instead reveals how her professional investigation is intertwined with her own traumatic past. Beneath the murders and conspiracies, Furious has a lot of important themes. The series explores sexual abuse, trafficking, corruption, and powerful men who appear capable of escaping consequences. Luckily, Furious doesn’t treat these topics like material for a conventional crime story; it makes them the foundation of its narrative. That's also why the show can be uncomfortable to watch. It isn't interested in giving viewers the reassuring fantasy that every crime will be solved, and every villain will receive a satisfying punishment. The series, however, also left enough crumbs for its sophomore installment to explore. Meriwether has indicated that Furious season 2 could move Alice and Nora into a different investigation rather than simply extending Catherine's story. With the murder of Jay, Alice has now become exactly like the people she hunts. Whether she will become like Catherine remains to be seen. Furious is an exceptional murder mystery series, but it also sheds light on the failings of the justice system.
