Hull hit with huge fine day before Chelsea clash for discriminatory chanting the last time clubs met

HULL CITY have been fined by the Football Association for discriminatory chants during their FA Cup loss to Chelsea in February. Three people were arrested for allegedly engaging in homophobic chanting as Hull suffered a 4-0 loss in the fourth round of last season’s competition. The FA later charged the club with failing “to ensure its spectators and/or supporters (and anyone purporting to be supporters) do not use words or behave in an improper, offensive, abusive, indecent or insulting way with a reference – whether express or implied – to sexual orientation”. Three supporters have also been banned for “a minimum of three years” following the FA Cup match. An official statement from the club read: “Hull City has been fined £30,000 by the Football Association for homophobic chanting by a section of supporters during February’s FA Cup tie with Chelsea. “The club has accepted a charge for breaching FA Rule E21, been warned about future conduct and issued with an action plan. “Hull City condemns, in the strongest possible terms, the offensive and inappropriate language used by the supporters responsible. The chant in question is recognised as a homophobic slur and its use may constitute a hate crime. “Three supporters identified as having engaged in homophobic chanting have been banned by the club for a minimum of three years. Individuals found using this chant may be arrested and face criminal charges. The club will continue to engage in regular dialogue with supporter groups to further improve the matchday experience for everyone. “We encourage supporters to report any discriminatory abuse directly by texting the word HULL, followed by details of the incident and where it occurred, to 60066, or via Kick It Out.” Hull face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday in the Premier League.
