‘Huge loss’ as British stationery chain with 450 shops launches ‘closing down’ sale at ANOTHER store

A MAJOR high street retailer has launched a closing down sale as it prepares to shutter another location. It comes as the stationery chain, which operates 450 stores across the UK, confirmed plans for a significant restructuring. The Worchestershire store, which operated as a WH Smith before last year’s rebranding, is set to shut as the brand scales back its high street portfolio. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! This restructuring plan was approved by the High Court in July, and will see 150 TG Jones stores cease operations. “As we work to secure the long-term future of TG Jones, we have confirmed that our Malvern shop will close,” a spokesperson for the brand said. “We know this will be disappointing news for our colleagues, customers, and the local community.” The rep continued: “Our focus now is on supporting those affected and continuing to serve customers throughout the closure period. “We would like to thank all of our colleagues for their commitment and the contribution they have made to TG Jones.” One Malvern resident described the closure as “a huge loss to the high street”, adding that “no one else stocks the array of magazines as they do”.
