Huge ITV quiz show’s spin-off ‘AXED’ after just one series – in latest blow to channel

AN ITV quiz show spin-off has been reportedly axed after only one series – in the latest blow to the channel. Launched earlier this year, Chase Across The World was devised as an extension to smash-hit teatime quiz The Chase. A source told the publication: “The Chase is a simple quiz format that has worked incredibly well for nearly 18 years. “Its spin-off Beat The Chasers also worked because it gave contestants the chance to compete against all six chasers at once, with more banter between the contestants, the chasers and of course Bradley Walsh.” Six pairs of contestants took part in the globetrotting contest – hoping to win £100,000 Credit: Shutterstock Editorial They put their wits against The Chase’s formidable quiz geniuses Credit: ITV The source described the spin-off as “one big flop”, as well as claiming host Bradley was reduced to a “voiceover man” and the Chasers had hardly featured. Continuing, they compared the series to BBC hit Race Across The World, but remarked how “sadly for everyone involved it has not worked.” The source concluded: “There’s been quite a lot of embarrassment behind the scenes, and it has already been decided that there won’t be another series.” A show spokesperson added: “With The Chase Around The World only having finished its linear broadcast just over two weeks ago, discussions are naturally still ongoing about a recommission at this time.” Most read in TV Chase Across The World’s format saw Bradley, 66, as well as Chasers Mark Labbett, Shaun Wallace, Anne Hegerty, Paul Sinha, Jenny Ryan and Darragh Ennis, step out from the familiar studio. Six pairs of contestants travelled between different world cities, while provided with various hints to find the Chasers – and try to win £100,000.
