An aerial ladder platform and a number of operational support vehicles were also deployed at the fire's peak to help extinguish the flames.Video footage of the blaze shared on social media showed thick black plumes of smoke – which could be seen for miles around – billowing hundreds of metres into the sky.Flames at the scrapyard were filmed swirling viciously as firefighters used their water hoses to control the raging inferno.The fire service immediately urged people living nearby to keep their doors and windows shut due to the large amount of smoke.Members of the public were also told to avoid the area as the blaze raged on.
