Huge fire erupts near homes as smoke billows for miles & residents warned to close windows after ‘explosions’ heard

A HUGE inferno has broken out on a busy industrial estate near homes, with plumes of black smoke seen for miles and explosions heard. Nine fire crews and sixteen fire engines were scrambled to the scene in Brislington, Bristol, after the blaze ignited in a disused building earlier today. Firefighters from nearby Hicks Gate, Temple, Kingswood, Avonmouth, Yate, Bath, Patchway, Bedminster and Nailsea are all currently at the scene of the huge inferno. A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue said: “Fire crews were called at 2:27 pm, and firefighters from Hicks Gate, Temple, Kingswood, Avonmouth, Yate, Bath, Patchway, Bedminster and Nailsea are currently on the scene tackling the fire. “We are asking residents and local businesses to keep their windows and doors closed and avoid the area where possible.” Police said enquiries into the fire remain ongoing at this time. A thick plume of smoke can be seen rising over the industrial estate as emergency services work to extinguish the fire. People can be seen watching on in horror as the blaze tears through the abandoned building. There have been no reported injuries. Police have asked drivers to keep their distance from the fire amid rush hour. Queues of traffic have begun to build on nearby roads as drivers face delays. Inrix said: “Emery Road in both directions closed, queuing traffic due to building fire from A4 Bath Road to Bonville Road.” Avon and Somerset Police said in a statement online: “Officers are on the scene supporting the fire service who are responding to an ongoing warehouse fire off Emery Road, in Bristol, today (Monday 1 September). “A 200m cordon is in place, and officers are currently evacuating the area around warehouse. Enquiries are ongoing.”
