Huge fire destroys over 100 homes in Norway as residents reveal horrors & rescue teams plagued by lightning and thunder

MORE than 100 homes have been burned to ashes as a devastating fire rages in Norway. Several hundred people were forced to evacuate on Friday as swarms of firefighters battled the biggest blaze the country has seen in a decade. A witness told The Sun cars and pets were abandoned amid the chaos. But he couldn’t confirm whether any Brits were caught up in the carnage. Anthony Kidd told us: “The fire spread so rapid, that many had to just run! Cars, cellphones, wallets, even pets were left behind!” He said it was the “largest fire in Norway in the last 100 years”. The local added: “Fire is still ongoing… Still spreading into homes and surrounding forest. “Emergency services have been drawn in from the surrounding 100km radius area. Unknown if any dead. “There are missing/dead pets.” More than 60 firefighters worked to put out the fire, while helicopters were deployed to douse the ⁠flames with water. But helicopters were forced to suspend operations overnight, leaving ground crews to fight the fire alone. “We still do not have control of the fire”, the emergency manager of the Drammen Region Fire Department Inge Wergeland said. “There is a fire in the forest in several places that we will have to deal with throughout the day on Saturday.” One person has been treated for minor smoke inhalation and one firefighter has suffered minor injuries. There were no official reports of people missing. Police first reported a fire in a townhouse at 3.30pm Friday. But it remains unclear how or where the fire started.
