Coach Darren Watson, 43, told The Sun: “Everyone recognised the boys everywhere we went because their bright kits stood out so much. “It made them feel really special. A lot of the lads don’t have the money for membership fees, the newest boots and so on. So having an amazing kit meant a lot.” And now you can score your own kit just like Matchday Coaching, as we are once again teaming up with Octopus Energy to give away free strips for 100 teams. It is the second year running the energy firm is giving away the must-have Octokits through The Sun, supporting grassroots junior football and the next superstars of the men’s and women’s national teams. Matchday Coaching has also launched a third team for under-12s as their kit has made them so recognisable that more lads want to join. Darren, a tour curator in London, said: “There’s a sense of togetherness wearing the same kit. It’s been lovely to see the huge smiles on their faces when playing in the new strip.” Matchday Coaching has two teams in the under-11 group. And it’s not just learning to play football that is important for the kids. “It really helps with their confidence and self-esteem when they feel like they’re part of an established football organisation that is well known,” Darren said. “Having that confidence is so important. It helps prepare them for the wider world and understand what it is like to have real pride in something.” Matchday Coaching, in Mill Hill, North London, took home brand new kits from Octopus Energy, meaning their ten-year-old footballers were able to finally play in matching gear It could be the World Cup trophy one day for this young ace Darren runs training on Thursdays, with matches played on Sundays.
