How to watch Oscar-winning documentary ‘Mr. Nobody Against Putin’

Balancing a grave subject matter with warmth, the film follows a Russian primary school videographer, who shows how education can be turned into a vehicle for wartime propaganda MANILA, Philippines – Filipino documentary lovers will get a chance to watch one of the world’s most acclaimed nonfiction films. Mr. Nobody Against Putin, winner of the 2026 Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature, will be screened on Saturday, July 25, at SinePop in Cubao, Quezon City. The film follows Pavel “Pasha” Talankin, a primary school teacher and school videographer in a mining town in Russia’s Ural Mountains. As pressure mounts on schools to promote state narratives and encourage students to support Russia’s war against Ukraine, Talankin quietly begins documenting what unfolds behind classroom doors. At great personal risk, he captures the everyday realities of educators and children navigating an increasingly politicized education system. Mr. Nobody Against Putin will screen at 1 pm, 3:30 pm, and 6 pm, through the efforts of the Filipino Documentary Society (FilDocs), in partnership with the Film Academy of the Philippines and SinePop. The screening is part of “Basta Doku,” FilDocs’ ongoing program that showcases internationally acclaimed documentaries alongside award-winning and critically acclaimed Philippine documentary films. Each screening is followed by conversations and talkbacks that encourage audiences to engage more deeply with the stories and issues explored on screen. Critics have praised Mr. Nobody Against Putin for balancing its grave subject matter with warmth and humanity. IndieWire described the film as “unique in dealing with serious issues about war and dehumanization with a light, even humorous, and certainly personality-filled touch — in the serious-as-a-heart-attack war documentary landscape, it is a unicorn.” Tickets are priced at P300. Seats may be reserved through the online registration form at https://forms.gle/ZZiy5aNHQkpa7QLz9. Tickets will also be available for purchase at SinePop on screening day, subject to availability. – Rappler.com How does this make you feel? Loading
