How To Unlock The Mythic Achievement In Halo: Campaign Evolved

LASO in Halo: Campaign Evolved is a difficulty mode that will unlock after you've completed the main campaign at least once. It stands for Legendary All Skulls On, but in Campaign Evolved, this doesn't actually mean all skulls. Instead, only 17 will be active, and for the most part, they're the same ones players would be used to when playing LASO in other Halo games. This is a required achievement if you hope to 100 percent the game, but it's also a great challenge for those who want to try something even more difficult than playing on Legendary. These Skulls will limit your ammo, make it harder to recharge your shields, remove HUD items, and several other things that will impact the way you play. So, to keep you from ripping your hair out, here are a few tips. 10 If All Else Fails, Alter Your Settings Players Have Found A Loophole For Those Who Only Want The Achievement The reality is, not every player who wants to 100 percent the game is necessarily looking to put themselves through LASO. Previously, this was more of a player-made challenge, so it wasn't required to complete the game. However, that has since changed, and Campaign Evolved has a specific achievement for it. This is likely to be patched out, so if you want the achievement this way, you'll want to do it soon. To keep the challenge as challenging as intended, changing your difficulty settings prevents you from being able to unlock the achievement. At least, it should. At the moment, players have discovered a workaround allowing them to alter their settings and still receive the achievement. In short, this involves opening your Gameplay Settings and altering everything under Preset 1, making it your default, and then starting a LASO playthrough. After you complete any mission on LASO with the modifiers active, go back to the main menu, turn the modifiers off, and start LASO on Pillar of Autumn without modifiers. Once you start Pillar of Autumn, pick up the first Skull that can be found on the catwalk of the cryo room, and this should unlock progress towards the achievement as if you completed that mission on LASO. You'll have to complete each mission this way and then open Pillar of Autumn and get the Skull to save progress for the achievement. Once you've done this with every mission, you'll unlock the achievement. 9 Don't Overlook Plasma Pistols Plasma Pistols Are Your Best Defense Against Shields And Vehicles While Plasma Pistols are generally a situational weapon that you might pass up in a normal playthrough, especially if you have weapons you want to hold onto, you'll want to keep an eye out for them in LASO. Shields and Vehicles are a pain in any difficulty, but they're an absolute nightmare to deal with in LASO, and hijacking vehicles can be incredibly valuable in keeping you alive. For this reason, Plasma Pistols are something you'll ideally want to keep an eye out for. The charge shot is great for taking down both obstacles quickly and can save you in a pinch. 8 Assassinations Are Your Friend Never Melee An Enemy From The Front Even though Assassination animations weren't added to Campaign Evolved, attacking enemies from behind is still the best way to activate Black Eye and charge your shield. It doesn't specify that the attack needs to be from any specific direction, but it does need to be a successful melee, and since hitting an enemy from behind downs most enemies in one hit, you'll want to make that a priority. Any other melee attempt, and you'll likely regret it immediately. You won't have any flashy animation like you would with modern Halo Assassinations, but for LASO that's honestly preferable because the longer animations leave you vulnerable to other nearby enemies. And it goes without saying that this needs to be a direct hit on an enemy's back to land successfully. 7 Keep An Eye Out For Great Weapons, But Accept What You Have Being Picky Is A Luxury You Won't Have In LASO Everyone has their favorite Halo weapon. Some are objectively better than others, but in most cases, the weapon you're best with is the best weapon for you. That said, being picky is a privilege you won't have while playing LASO. Several of the Skulls make Ammo nearly impossible to come by, so you'll be swapping weapons more often than you would normally, and you may have to trade off a weapon for something that's objectively worse because the alternative is nothing at all. You should still make an effort to get your hands on the best weapon available to you and remember common weapon supply points in missions, but accept that it may not always be what you want. 6 You Are NOT Here To Finish This Fight Run First, Shoot Later Believe me, I know how difficult it is to run from a fight in virtually any game, but you need to remember that the main objective of LASO is survival. If you want to view the traditional campaign as this grandiose action-hero mission where you take down every Covenant and Flood enemy you come across, great, but in LASO, all you need to do is move your ass. If you attempt to take down every enemy you come across, you're going to make LASO a million times more difficult than it needs to be. For the most part, LASO is about figuring out the quickest, most effective, and least dangerous route in the mission. You likely won't even have enough ammo to finish everything off, so don't get hung up on it and only deal with the ones you absolutely have to. 5 Expect Repetition And Use It To Your Advantage You Will Die. A Lot. As mentioned in the last entry, a major part of LASO is mapping out the best route to get you to the end of the mission alive. Unfortunately, this primarily comes with repetition, which means you're going to die frequently, and you have to accept that as part of the LASO experience. Each death should only help you improve, though, so it's not all bad. It can be extremely frustrating to repeat the same mission ten times over, especially if you're playing Solo, but that's part of what makes the payoff of a successful run that much sweeter. 4 Listen For Sound Cues You Can't See, But You Can Hear Since the Malfunction Skull will occasionally prevent you from seeing when your shields are down, your best alternative is listening for sound cues. When your shields are down, it's nearly impossible to tune out the persistent beeping unless you turn off Gameplay Sounds altogether. So, even though you can't see it, this should help clue you into the fact that you need to get in some Melee hits to recharge them. Now, you could assume your shields are always down and get into the habit of taking advantage of any Melee attack you can, but this would put you in unnecessary danger. It's already risky to approach dangerous enemies in normal difficulties, so don't do it on LASO unless you absolutely have to. Additionally, use headphones and try to listen for nearby enemy chatter. This can help you avoid ambushes and get the jump if you don't know the levels well enough to know where enemies are typically stationed. 3 Make Your Own Reticle Placeholder Use A Sticker To Give Yourself Back A Reticle Since the Malfunction Skull is part of LASO, you may not always have a visible reticle to use. Of course, it's not impossible to play without a reticle under normal circumstances, but on LASO, where every shot matters, it might as well be a death sentence. To get around this, use tape or a very small sticker to put a physical reticle on your TV or computer screen. You'll obviously need to place it when a reticle is visible to ensure it's in the correct spot, but once you've done that, you're ready to go. The physical reticle does take some getting used to, but it's better than nothing when you have limited ammo and otherwise are without one. 2 Wake Me When You Need Me What's Better Than One Master Chief? Two. While Solo LASO is certainly a flex if you can pull it off, it's not recommended. For one thing, it's significantly more difficult to do alone for several reasons, but the primary one is that playing LASO together prevents you from having to restart missions entirely. If you die while playing Solo, you'll be forced to start all over thanks to the Iron Skull. Alternatively, if you die while in co-op, then both players will be reset to a checkpoint. Now, most players work around this by using the Save and Quit method to prevent full restarts and save checkpoints, but if you have someone to play with then you can save yourself the hassle and make things overall a bit easier. 1 LASO Doesn't Actually Mean LASO Only 17 out of 42 Skulls Are Actually On During LASO In Campaign Evolved Although LASO originally started as a bit of a self-created challenge among players, it's since been officially implemented into modern games and even earlier games through anniversary editions and remakes. So while Halo: CE didn't originally have LASO, Campaign Evolved now includes an achievement specifically for it and a pre-made mode that keeps you from having to set it up manually. That said, despite the full name being Legendary All Skulls On, LASO in Campaign Evolved doesn't actually mean all Skulls. Instead, only 17 Skulls out of 42 will be active, primarily omitting things that would be beneficial to players or change the game in ways that aren't intended, such as the Remixed Mode Skulls. When starting a LASO mode playthrough, you can look through all the Skulls that are currently active to get an idea of everything you'll be faced with before you start. So, the most important thing when starting a LASO playthrough is to know which Skulls are actually active, so you know what you'll be dealing with. For the most part, if you have experience playing LASO in other Halo games, it's roughly all the same stuff you'd normally expect, such as needing Melee hits to recharge shields, losing HUD visibility, and overall being less powerful and less damage-resistant.
