How To Unlock Fortnite's Free Jimothy Sidekick

Jimothy Has Scurried Into Fortnite, Here's Where To Find Him Published Oct 2, 2026, 10:28 AM EDT Josh Coulson is an editor at TheGamer covering breaking news on everything from colorful platformers to the latest Lego sets. Primarily a news writer since 2018, Josh has covered just about every major game from the past decade. Now an editor, their focus has shifted to being the leading affiliate expert at the site, building relationships between TheGamer and global brands including Mattel, Funko, and The Pokemon Company. Sign in to your TheGamer account Fortnite’s video game-themed Override season has coincided with its annual Fortnitemares event, resulting in some additional and appropriate crossovers being revealed this week. That overlap has, for some reason, also brought Jimothy, the viral raccoon, to Fortnite’s shores. Epic Games Jimothy went viral earlier this year after someone captured footage of the raccoon and shared it online. The world fell in love with Jimothy due to the raccoon’s unconventional shape. The Seattle native is almost ball-shaped, likely due to a spinal deformity. While I’m rarely surprised by Fortnite crossovers nowadays, I was not expecting Jimothy to show up in the game. Not only does no one own the raccoon’s IP (I’d hope) due to the fact that it’s a wild animal, but it hasn’t even been three months since Jimothy took the internet by storm. Yet here we are, heading into Halloween, and you can now have Jimothy join you on your Fortnite escapades. The raccoon has been added to the live service game as a sidekick. That means he isn’t technically player-controlled, but rather a little character that follows you around. How To Unlock A Jimothy Sidekick Of Your Very Own Epic Games Not only is the Jimothy sidekick free, but it is relatively easy to unlock. You might not have realised that following this week’s update, which added Jimothy to the game, as unlocking the raccoon is tied to a secret, unlisted quest. The quest is called “Extract A Silly Little Guy” and to complete it, you need to extract a Dumpster Dive Sprite. While there are various ways to get your hands on one, the best way to do it right now is by landing in Nightmare Neighborhood and taking down the new boss that now walks the POI’s streets - Freddy Krueger from Nightmare on Elm Street. Epic Games Krueger will mirror your skin to try to make himself look like a regular player in an attempt to confuse you. Not the greatest tactic since even if you’re fooled by that, you’d still shoot them. Either way, once defeated, Krueger will drop a Dumpster Dive Sprite. Grab it and make sure you take it to an extraction site before the end of the match. Do that, and when you return to your locker after the match is over, Jimothy should be there waiting for you and can be equipped as your sidekick. He’s not the only sidekick coming to Fortnite for Fortnitemares either. Briefly shown during this year’s Fortnitemares trailer, The Knight from Hollow Knight will be added as a sidekick too. The Knight isn’t available yet, but since they will be part of a bundle, you will likely have to pay for them rather than unlock them for free like Jimothy.
