Unlike other books, you won't actually need to read them to unlock the recipe. Instead, purchasing the book will automatically add it to your available recipes, which you can practice that evening in the Atelier. As with every other vendor, however, Hassan's available books and games will expand as time passes, and you won't find all the recipe books available immediately.
