Thankfully, you will not have to rely on directional instincts forever. The game's map is an essential tool for keeping track of your surroundings and plotting a route through all that beautifully miserable scenery. Of course, this is Mortal Shell 2, so you cannot just open it up from the start and call it a day. You will need to make some progress first. Here is what you need to know about unlocking the map. How To Unlock The Map You will unlock the map naturally as you progress through the opening hour of Mortal Shell 2. The early path is fairly linear, so keep following the main route through the first areas and beacons. Eventually, you will encounter a mini-boss that you are not meant to defeat. After the fight, you will gain the Harden ability. Continue through the next area until you reach a circular location near a cliff, where you can collect your first Ova. Picking up the Ova triggers a cutscene. Once it ends, you will regain control at a campfire and receive a notification confirming that the map has been unlocked/revealed. Most of the map will initially remain hidden, so you will need to explore to reveal more of the world. As you continue your journey, look for large statues and Ruk, the black bird, who watches over map fragments in various locations. These fragments are marked on your map with icons of Ruk himself.
