Changing class in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave is done by passing certification exams in Dagsion. The feature unlocks early during every Part 1 path, when an unavoidable tutorial gives your Flame Lord their first class change for free. Afterwards, you can buy the appropriate licences and take further exams in Dagsion's Temple district. Unlocking a class requires a licence and a successful exam, but switching between classes you have already earned is free. Where To Change Class In Dagsion, climb the steps in the centre of the Temple district. Two nearby NPCs handle the class system: the licence vendor, who sells the items required for ordinary certification exams; the certification NPC, who lets your units take the exams themselves. You are introduced to both early in each path. The tutorial is part of the main progression and cannot be missed, so every route gives its Flame Lord an initial opportunity to change class. How To Unlock A New Class To certify a unit for a standard class: Visit the licence vendor in Dagsion's Temple district. Obtain the licence required for the relevant class rank. Speak to the certification NPC. Select the unit who will take the exam. Move to the correct exam tier and select the desired class. Review its pass chance, ideal level and required skills. Use the licence to attempt the certification exam. Once the class is unlocked, change into it whenever it suits your build. The exam screen previews far more than the unit's appearance. It shows how the class changes stat growth, which skills it can use, the skill-experience bonuses it grants and the ranks affecting the exam. How Certification Pass Chance Works A unit does not always need to meet every listed skill recommendation before attempting an ordinary exam. Their current ranks determine the displayed pass chance, which can range from 0 percent to 100 percent. Training the class's primary and secondary skills improves those odds. The exam screen uses colour-coded ranks to show where the unit falls short, while the Ideal Lv provides a useful indication of when that tier is designed to become practical — trying to unlock a class for a unit that isn't a high-enough level will be very much an uphill battle, it's one of the most impactful requirements. Class Rank Ideal Minimum Level Beginner 5 Specialty 20 Advanced 35 Master 45 Divine No ideal level, entirely based on skill levels Every Class Rank And How It Unlocks There are five class ranks in Fortune's Weave: Beginner, Specialty, Advanced, Master and Divine. Beginner Classes Beginner Classes become available alongside the class-change tutorial early in each Part 1 path. They use Beginner Licences and have an ideal level of five. These classes establish the unit's initial direction, but reclassing is free. You can experiment without permanently committing a character to the first option you choose. Specialty Classes Specialty Classes are unlocked by raising Renown during Part 1. Their exams use Specialty Licences and have an ideal level of 20. This tier begins introducing more defined battlefield roles, including mounted, armoured, physical and magical options. Continue training the skills required by a unit's intended Advanced Class while they work through this rank. Advanced Classes Advanced Classes also unlock through higher Renown levels. Their exams generally use Advanced Licences and list an ideal level of 35. Not every Advanced Class comes from Renown alone. Several must be unlocked by completing quests, often through a Flame Lord's unique path actions. For example, Cai can unlock classes through Mentorship, while Leda obtains Dancer through her performance quests. Once unlocked in one path, classes are unlocked in all classes. Master Classes Master Classes become available in Part 3. These are the highest conventional class rank, use Master Licences and have an ideal level of 45. Their requirements demand much greater skill investment, so a unit's level alone will not guarantee a good pass chance. Many Master Classes must also be unlocked by rebuilding Temples and completing quests for their gods and goddesses. Divine Classes Divine Classes are special Part 3 classes. They do not follow the ordinary licence and ideal-level structure. Around the middle of Part 3, you are prompted to find particular Keys hidden in specific dungeons and take them to a secret Temple. Each unlocked Divine Class uses its own unique certification item rather than a standard Divine Licence. Unlike ordinary exams, a character can only attempt an exclusive Divine Class exam when their pass chance has reached 100 percent. How Exclusive Classes Work Divine Classes and Dancer are exclusive: only one character can hold each of these classes at a time. That does not mean the first character certified must keep the class permanently. Use Return Classification to relinquish an exclusive class, allowing another eligible unit to take its exam instead. This is why Leda does not have to remain your Dancer, even though she is very heavily prompted to take the class on during her route's quests. Her performance quests unlock the class, but you can return its classification and give the role to another favourite who reaches a 100 percent pass chance. The same flexibility applies to Divine Classes. Although their stats and required skills naturally favour certain units, you can distribute them among your preferred characters with sufficient training. Are Any Classes Restricted? Most classes are available to any unit capable of meeting their requirements, but there are several important exceptions: Wing Soldier and Celestial Trooper are restricted to female units. Dancer and each Divine Class are limited to one active holder at a time. Some units cannot take on some classes due to their models. Goliath, for example, is so massive that he cannot ride a horse or ornius.
