Many bosses in Phantom Blade Zero follow a similar formula: break the boss's stamina, do damage to them, rinse and repeat. However, some bosses have an annoying extra mechanic that shakes up the formula and makes the fight seem harder than it actually is. Wu Xuan — The Fallen General is one such Boss. What makes this fight particularly difficult is the armor bar, instead of the stamina bar, the boss has on himself. Not to mention, Wu Xuan also has attacks that will constantly burn you and slowly chip away at your health. Long story short, this is an annoying endurance fight, but fortunately it's very manageable if you know what to do. Before You Fight Wu Xuan While it's not necessary, you definitely should do a few things before you attempt to fight The Fallen General. Firstly, definitely equip the Dread Axe (the first heavy weapon you get in the game). While it's nothing fancy, this axe will do a good chunk of damage to Wu Xuan's armor and if you have it upgraded enough, you can even turn it into a three-attack hit. This can pretty much get rid of half of its armor. Another useful accessory is the Shieldbreaker Talisman. With this, you can chip away at the boss's shield a bit faster. It won't win you the fight, but it can make it go by a bit faster. Obviously, bring the Healing Gourds you are most comfortable with because you will need a lot of healing, especially when Wu Xuan starts using his fire attacks. With that in mind, you can go ahead and start the fight. How To Defeat Wu Xuan The Fallen General While Wu Xuan only has one phase, it feels like you actually have three. The reason for this is: you cannot do damage to Wu Xuan while his armor bar is up. Fortunately, when you do deplete his armor, you'll do a finisher which destroys almost a quarter of his health and then get a brief window to do a bit more damage. The problem is getting his armor bar down. When you start fighting Wu Xuan, he won't use his full force, so we recommend you simply dodge and parry most of his attacks and attack him whenever you get a chance. Again, you won't do any damage to him, but you will slowly peal off his armor, bit by bit. His attacks are mostly predictable, so parrying them shouldn't be too much of an issue. When you deplete his armor once, and he regains it back, that's when he will "fire himself up" with purple flames. This makes the fight significantly more difficult because even when you dodge his attacks, you'll still be hit with a mild burn effect that will slowly chip away at your health. It's nothing too bad, but if you take your time, you may just run out of healing items and die (this happened to us a lot of times). What you can do to get through this second and third phase faster is to use the Dread Axe. With this, you can get rid of half his armor (especially if you use three swings). Otherwise, you need to keep parrying and dodging his attacks and not get his by his deadly finishers. The third phase is exactly the same as the second one, except you'll likely have less healing items and less chances to use the giant axe. Simply keep practicing and should be able to down Wu Xuan. After you deplete his shield for the third time, go for the finisher, and you'll have won. Like we said earlier, it's just a race between whether you can kill this guy sooner than he can drain all your health and healing items.
