How Shahneel Gill went from being a cricketer's sister to The Traitors' standout

Shahneel Gill entered The Traitors 2 with much of the attention on her as Indian cricketer Shubman Gill’s sister, but she left the show as one of its biggest talking points. In a season featuring names such as Mallika Sherawat, Dalip Tahil and Shalini Passi, she arrived with little expectation around her and turned that into an advantage over the course of the game.Her journey covered almost every major turn in the format. Shahneel began as an Innocent, was later recruited as a Traitor, stayed away from suspicion until Episode 7, and was eventually voted out after a key exchange during the Circle of Shaq.Shahneel had largely been seen in the stands supporting her brother Shubhman. The Traitors 2, hosted by Karan Johar and built around strategy, deception and shifting alliances, changed that.The recruitment that changed her gameShe started the show as an Innocent. The original three Traitors were Kullu, also known as Aaditya Kulshreshtha, Krystle D’Souza and Harman Singha. When Karan Johar gave them the option to recruit another contestant, they chose Shahneel, and she accepted. The decision worked in her favour because the other contestants had little reason to immediately suspect her. While Harman was exposed as a Traitor and eventually eliminated, Shahneel stayed away from the centre of suspicion. She benefited from being underestimated and, because she was not as loud or visibly strategic as some of the other players, she was able to work from behind the scenes. That phase also helped her build stronger bonds with contestants such as Rida Tharana and create the impression that she was an ally rather than a threat.The Episode 4 task that stood outOne of her standout moments came in Episode 4, when the Traitors had to nominate four people, including Traitors, for a “Game of Death”. The names had to be written during a secret task, with one of the Traitors marking four nooses on a painting. After Kullu and Krystle backed out, Shahneel carried out the task on her own. She moved through the billiards room and wrote the names without being noticed. Even after Kullu was identified as a Traitor and Krystle continued to face suspicion, Shahneel managed to stay under the radar. Until Episode 7, which also became her final appearance on the show, no one suspected that Shahneel was a Traitor.Her run ended after detective Tanya Puri raised questions over Shahneel’s version during the Circle of Shaq. The episode had begun with several contestants suspecting Krystle of being a Traitor, but the focus shifted when Tanya asked both Krystle and Shahneel about the contents of the letters they had received that morning informing them that they had been saved.While Krystle recalled what was written in her letter immediately, Shahneel said, “I don't remember everything by heart.” That reply triggered suspicion among the contestants, many of whom said they remembered their letters clearly. Shahneel defended herself by saying that she simply had a bad memory and that forgetting the contents of the letter did not make her a Traitor. The explanation did not persuade the group, and she was voted out.Praise on the way outDespite her elimination, Shahneel was praised by fellow contestants for the way she played as a Traitor. Rhea called her a “boss woman”, while Mallika Sherawat told her, “You are the best traitor in the history of traitors.”As she left the show, Shahneel said, “Guys, I had a lot of fun talking to you and making friends. I didn't know I'd take back such good friendships with me. I am very happy that I got to be a part of such a beautiful game.
