I can’t remember another time an FBI director was in the news for getting engaged, and I preferred it that way—how much should we really know about the love lives of the officials in charge of a law enforcement agency? But Kash Patel is a creature of the Trump administration, and if there’s one thing Trump world figures are gonna do, it’s have messy, regrettably notable personal lives. And that’s why I have been forced to learn about Patel’s recent engagement, to 27-year-old country singer Alexis Wilkins, who I have steadfastly tried to ignore. I’m told that’s no longer an option, so here we go. Patel and Wilkin’s relationship has been the subject of considerable media interest for the last year or so, since Patel took the role of FBI director and soon after started getting hit with accusations of misusing government resources, in the form of private jet rides for dates and vacations and around-the-clock security for his now-fiancée. Will the taxpayers also be footing the bill for the wedding? After Donald Trump Jr.’s recent Russian oligarch–sponsored wedding in the Bahamas, it seems like nothing’s off the table. Especially for a guy who used the FBI jet to party with the men’s Olympic hockey team earlier this year. I shudder to think how many of my personal tax dollars I’ll eventually contribute to the festivities. Patel and Wilkins have been dating since early 2023, after meeting at a party in Nashville in 2022, according to the New York Times. Wilkins has held positions in conservative spaces over the years—she was a congressman’s spokeswoman for a month and worked in communications at Women for Gun Rights for three months after that. But her primary work these days seems to be singing at events, most of them conservative in nature, though at least one was a one pro-wrestling match—Patel got in trouble for using the FBI j to get to that performance, too. Wilkins has also frequently been seen supporting Patel during his professional obligations, such as his swearing-in ceremony or when he was questioned by the Senate Judiciary Committee. Wilkins announced the engagement on her personal social media, with a caption that I regret to say I did find cute despite their general loathsomeness: “Went and got the law involved 💍❤️,” she wrote, accompanying a black-and-white portrait of the couple prominently featuring Wilkins’ now-rock-sporting left hand. I don’t like these people, but at the end of the day, I can’t really begrudge a 27-year-old getting off a semi-clever Instagram caption she has probably been waiting half her life to post. Good job on that one little thing, Alexis. She is also celebrating on Instagram Stories, where she posted a picture of some engagement-themed sequins and the text, “Yayyyyyyy first cute lil celebration lunch,” universal bride-ese for, “I want to continue receiving attention for my engagement please.” This is very typical behavior for a twentysomething woman, and I just really wish this girlie were engaged to anyone but this particular man so we could all just be happy for her. Alas. FBI Fraud Weddings
