According to Mark Hall, an expert for Business Waste, keeping your bins as cool as possible in the hot weather is key if you want to keep maggots to a minimum. “With temperatures rising and heat helping maggots grow, keeping your bins in shaded areas will slow down the process,” Mark explained. He says that moving your bins to a shaded or enclosed area out of warm sunlight is a must. “Where possible, store the bin in a garage, shed, or under a shaded overhang,” Mark added. “This will reduce the likelihood of maggot infestations and minimise bad smells caused by all the waste.” Most read in The Sun Mark also advises giving your bins a thorough clean ahead of particularly hot weather, even if maggots haven’t arrived yet, as preventing them is easier than banishing them.
