Hotel Front Desk Worker Admits Eating Guest’s $50 DoorDash Order—It Was Left In The Lobby For 2 Hours

According to a video posted online, a hotel guest “DoorDashes a $50 meal to the lobby—only to find the front desk worker already ate it.” The man says he found the front desk agent eating his order. She says the food had been sitting there for two hours. She eventually apologizes and offers to reimburse him. He still needed dinner. @technowceo unbelievable original sound – CE0,000,000 She offered to pay via Cash App. He doesn’t have it. He asks about Apple Pay, she doesn’t have it. They finally agree to use someone else’s Cash App account. She did wonder if this whole thing was a ruse, leaving the food so she’d eat it. But why would it be? “I didn’t spend $50 on Mexican food to set you up.” At what point is the food abandoned? And does it become fair game for employees then? He argues that waiting to pick it up didn’t make it hers. Some commenters think she reasonably assumed the food entered the commons at some point, but no one can quite say what the threshold for that is. I just don’t understand wanting to eat Mexican food that took awhile to get delivered and then sat out for two hours. Montezuma’s Revenge. Usually these deliveries have someone’s name on it. A guest would have been registered. There’s probably contact information. Maybe try to reach them before eating their food? I Always Rush Downstairs For Food Delivery Whenever I order DoorDash (or Grubhub, Uber Eats) to a hotel, I rush down to meet the driver. I assume I’m going to be charged for the food, and that if I wait there’s a decent chance it won’t be there when I arrive. Someone can pick up the wrong bag, or it just gets moved and no one is keeping track of it for me. I much prefer proper room service brought to my room. After a long day, I may want to finish some work, change clothes, and decompress. Going downstairs, finding the driver, and bringing dinner back up isn’t the same experience. Unfortunately, room service is disappearing, and where it remains it’s often expensive and disappointing. I’ve written about premium hotels delivering food in plastic containers, stripping out much of the service while keeping the price. Meanwhile, an app puts restaurants all over town at your fingertips. You can order something much more interesting than the hotel’s burger. Then it arrives soggy, lukewarm, and congealed. That’s two pretty miserable equilibria. A hotel makes room service less appealing, fewer guests order it, and low sales become the justification for reducing staffing and hours or eliminating it altogether. I wrote about that cycle when the Cosmopolitan introduced a $250 minimum for traditional room service in 2023. The demand for dinner in your room is still there. The hotel version wasn’t ever great to begin with but has gotten much worse, and the replacement has too much packaging and travel time before it reaches you, and the delivery is rarely seamless. I think you really need to pay attention to dishes that travel well, like curries and soups. Regardless, you want sauces and dressings packed separately. And have your own utensils. I’ve long carried a few plastic forks in my laptop bag because delivery orders so often arrive without them. Having dinner in front of you and then having to deal with the front desk or restaurant for a free fork is unpleasant. I’d love to see hotels receive orders and deliver them to guests at least. That’s not the same as a room service cart and a meal in china but it avoids having to monitor the delivery yourself and time when you head down. They might even coordinate deliveries with a handful of curated restaurants that pay them the vig instead of Uber. Topics on this page
