TEMPLEGATE takes on Saturday’s racing confident of giving the bookies a bashing and making it one to remember for Sun readers. Follow him in and back a horse by clicking their odds below. BINHAREER (3.02 Newbury, nap) BINHAREER gets the vote after being bumped and battered in the Wokingham last time. William Haggas’ gelding kept having the door slammed in his face before flying home into sixth. That effort suggests he’s ready to make his mark at Group level. Hopefully this smaller field will take luck in running out of the equation. KINGSTON NARCISSUS (2.45 Market Rasen, nb) He has really improved with every chase start this year, winning at Hexham before seconds on both outings for Dan Skelton over shorter trips. First-time cheekpieces could help eke out a bit more and this step up in distance looks a plus. Sets the standard for top target team. PRINCE OF THE SEAS (3.15 Ripon, treble) Has been knocking on the door and followed a close third at Doncaster with a neck second at Hamilton last time. He would have won in a few more strides so will hopefully challenge slightly earlier this time. Templegate’s TV verdicts NEWBURY Most read in Horse Racing 1.55 AL ZANATI didn’t show his true colours when sixth in the Dante at York and has been given a break by Charlie Appleby since then. His earlier form was strong and he ended his juvenile season with a Group 3 win in France. His comeback in that grade at Sandown in April was promising and it’s interesting that William Buick has chosen to ride him ahead of stablemate Arabian Light. That horse hasn’t fired yet this term but a return to the form of his Dubai handicap win in January would give him a squeak. Templegate's Tote Placepot tips NEWBURY LEG 1 Al Zanati, PersicaLEG 2 Ride The Thunder, Baileys KhelstarLEG 3 Binhareer, Soldier’s TreeLEG 4 Etienne, Sky SecretLEG 5 Manaar,LEG 6 Satellite Of Love, Untouchable Persica wasn’t beaten far in a Sandown Listed contest last time but it’s a while since he won now and he’d perhaps like the ground softer. Oceans Four is a player after going down by just over a length in the Hampton Court at Royal Ascot latest. The first-time cheekpieces go on which could help too. Silawi has a Group 1 win over 1m4f on his CV and drops in class after some modest runs. His best would give him a chance, while Midak looks well short of this standard. 2.25 RIDE THE THUNDER was backed off the boards for the Northumberland Plate three Saturdays ago before running a respectable sixth. He got caught up in a battle for the lead there, burning up early petrol, and will hopefully have a better time in this smaller field. He’s had a little nudge down the weights and won’t be far away. Baileys Khelstar landed a smart win at Kempton last time when picking up strongly off a slow gallop. That followed a course-and-distance win on quick ground so he should be competitive again. Shrimp Shady was a good Chester Plate winner on good to firm in May. He couldn’t quite match that at Newcastle last time and should be happier back on turf. Almuhit was behind Baileys Khelstar when they met here last month but the handicapper has given him a chance with a 7lb pull and that should bring them closer together. Team Player hasn’t had the best of runs lately and the form of his April win at Musselburgh would give him a chance. 3.02 BINHAREER gets the vote after being bumped and battered in the Wokingham last time. William Haggas’ gelding kept having the door slammed in his face before flying home into sixth. That effort suggests he’s ready to make his mark at Group level. Hopefully this smaller field will take luck in running out of the equation. The biggest danger looks like Soldier’s Tree, who has gone from strength to strength since joining James Owen. Excellent thirds in Listed company at Salisbury and the Wokingham advertise his claims and he has few miles on the clock for a five-year-old. Song Of The Clyde drops back in grade after a respectable effort in the Commonwealth Cup and already has Newbury Listed form to his name. Symbol Of Honour looked much more like his old self when third in a Newcastle Group 3 and should strip fitter for that return. Veteran Mitbaahy also caught the eye at Royal Ascot, finishing fastest of all after blowing the start, although he may miss the break again. Jasour has plenty of smart form but was disappointing in the Jubilee Stakes. 3.37 ETIENNE looks perfect for the Weatherbys Super Sprint. Richard Spencer’s flyer found the post coming a stride too soon on debut at Newmarket last time. That was a highly promising effort and he showed a good turn of foot. There is likely to be a blistering pace on and he can strike late again. Bint Archange didn’t fire at Royal Ascot but showed that was just a blip when powering home to take a Sandown Listed contest 15 days ago. She’ll be right there for Richard Hughes who won this race in his riding days. Sky Secret and Angels Lane are also high on the shortlist. RIPON3.15PRINCE OF THE SEAS has been knocking on the door and followed a close third at Doncaster with a neck second at Hamilton last time. He would have won in a few more strides so will hopefully challenge slightly earlier this time. Elsass won his first two in handicaps this season before a poor effort in the Old Newton Cup at Newmarket when eased down. If he’s over that, he’ll be in the mix. Yafreh looks a player after a good second on handicap debut at Thirsk this month. He gets plenty of weight from his elders which should help. Salamanca City has won two of her past three on fast and slow ground. She’s creeping up the weights but stays well and James Fanshawe has his horses in solid form. MARKET RASEN 2.10 MOON CHIME was a gutsy winner of the Swinton Hurdle on his last spin over hurdles and has struck on the all-weather since. He has top-weight to carry today but he likes a fast surface, this trip is ideal and he gets on well with his 3lb claiming rider. He looks solid to make the frame at least at rewarding odds. Mojito Des Mottes has the benefit of Harry Cobden in the JP McManus silks and he was last seen coming from a long way back to grab second at Ascot in March. That was his handicap debut and he could well be a few strides ahead of the handicapper and looks the biggest threat. Louis Veron comes from the all-conquering Skeltons and he makes his handicap debut from a fair mark despite a bloodless win at Stratford last time. Squeezebox has been in fine form at lower levels and gets his chance to take on stronger opposition here. He will have to improve but it’s still early days and there should be a lot more to come. 2.45 THE Skeltons can take another big prize with KINGSTON NARCISSUS. The brothers are the king of target training and this seven-year-old is having just his third run for the yard. First-time cheekpieces could help eke out a bit more and this step up in distance looks a plus. Sets the standard for top target team. King Roly won three chases last season and right back to his best when second over this course and distance last month. He enjoys racing here, quick ground suits him well and he’s on a workable mark. A big danger at rewarding odds. Soul Icon was second in 2024 and Harry Cobden, who has won the last three runnings, is back on board. Lightly raced last season and shaped well enough on his completed starts before being brought down in the Grand National. Conditions suit and he’s a major player.
