Horse racing tips: ‘Impressive winner returns to his favourite track’ – Templegate’s Saturday NAP

TEMPLEGATE takes on Saturday’s racing confident of bashing the bookies with a cracking selection of top tips. Back a horse by clicking their odds below and don’t forget to check out our best free bet offers. GETHIN (2.50 Kempton, nap) Can strike back at his favourite track. Forget his Eclipse struggle on rattling-fast ground – his previous neck second in a Group 3 is much more his form. He was an impressive Listed winner here in April and can show more now going up in trip. ROCKET BOY (1.55 Haydock, nb) Marco Botti’s colt has made a cracking start to his career. He caused an upset on debut at Yarmouth when winning well despite trouble in running. He then took a sizeable step forward when thrown into Listed company at Salisbury. That third was packed with promise despite Marco Botti’s hope looking pretty green. He looked to be learning all the way and was doing his best work at the finish over this mile trip. MARVELMAN (3.40 Haydock, treble) Looks a muddy marvel in the Sprint Cup. Andrew Balding’s four-year-old looks primed for a huge run with conditions coming right. He produced one of his best efforts when third behind Notable Speech in the Group 1 City of York Stakes over 7f a fortnight ago, travelling strongly before seeing the race out well. Dropping back to 6f looks ideal and, with heavy-ground winning form, today’s testing surface holds no fears. Templegate’s verdicts (ITV4, 1.15pm-4.00pm) HAYDOCK Most read in Horse Racing 1.25 HANKELOW can hit back. Karl Burke’s colt has something to prove after two defeats but there are good reasons to forgive both and his best form puts him bang in the picture. He looked a serious prospect when winning a Group 3 over a mile at Newmarket last autumn before returning with a cracking third in the French 2,000 Guineas. A longer trip on quicker ground didn’t work next time and he returned from 11 weeks off at York last month where he went for home too soon. Dropping back to a mile should help and he has already run well on soft ground. Burke has won the past two runnings of this too. Needle Match is a big danger. He won on heavy at two and returned to form with a Group 3 second at Leopardstown last month. The Lost King is flying after back-to-back York handicap wins and soft ground clearly suits, although this demands another jump forward. Persica brings Group form and handles soft, while Fondo Blanco bounced back with a good second at Goodwood last week. Dancing Gemini has the class but his record on soft and heavy ground is a major concern. 1.55 ROCKET BOY can blast home. Marco Botti’s colt has made a cracking start to his career. Heavy ground is an unknown but his dam is by Pivotal and that family normally loves lots of cut. First Law is the one to worry about. The million-guinea colt overcame greenness to win on debut and could improve a bundle on that if handling slow ground. Rafe’s Da Man is progressing and arrives after a solid Goodwood maiden success but the ground is unknown again. Theheatison has proven soft-going form and his stamina will come into play in the conditions but he looks short on form. Arthurian ran well when second here on good to firm latest and can figure if handling the ground for Andrew Balding. 2.30 GALILEAN QUALITY keeps on improving and can land another big staying prize. Karl Burke’s progressive three-year-old produced his best yet when second in the Melrose at York. He had a mountain to climb from the rear that day but powered through the field, grabbing second late. That effort confirmed 1m6f is right up his street and goes on soft ground. Stablemate Asia Force could be dangerous. He looked transformed after being gelded when hammering his rivals over this trip at Carlisle, though the ground is an unknown. Reem Rak is another thriving stayer. She followed a 16-length Doncaster romp with a close third at Newmarket and has run well on soft. Lopeo is interesting back on testing ground having won on heavy as a juvenile, while Mythical Bay has three wins this season but was behind Galilean Quality at York and needs more to turn that around. Bridge Of Eagles looks the type to improve for this stamina test and won’t be far away. 3.05 KISSMEHONEYHONEY could be the handicap blot lurking at the bottom of the weights. William Haggas’s lightly-raced filly has had just three starts and makes her handicap debut from a lowly mark with plenty to come. She showed a good attitude to win on debut last season before being pitched into Listed company at Goodwood on return. That didn’t work out but she got firmly back on track when second at Hamilton last month. Her pedigree points strongly towards stamina and her low weight means she’s surely overpriced each-way at least. Aegean Prince sets the standard for Charlie Appleby. He has been off for 320 days but was last seen finishing a close second on soft at Deauville and looks unexposed. Stablemate Finalise also commands respect after returning from a long absence with a Listed third over this trip in Germany. Stressfree ran a cracker when sixth in the Ebor and is proven on heavy. He was third in this race last season and is lower in the handicap this time around. Dancing In Paris arrives after winning at Ascot on form but also handles deep ground so has to be in the place picture. Ashnak is another mudlark to consider, having gained his sole French victory on heavy, although moving up to 1m6f asks a new stamina question. 3.40 MARVELMAN looks a muddy marvel in the Sprint Cup. Marvelman also ran a cracker over this trip in Newcastle’s Chipchase Stakes in June and a strongly-run six should bring his stamina into play. Kind Of Blue is the big danger. The 2024 Champions Sprint winner finished second in this race last year, handles soft ground and has already shown his class at the highest level. James Fanshawe also knows exactly what it takes to win this prize. Almeraq is another serious threat. He looked top class when landing the Group 1 Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot and can be forgiven his free-going July Cup defeat. He handles soft ground and could bounce straight back. Last year’s winner Big Mojo arrives after a Curragh Group 3 victory, while improving Hungerford winner Coppull has claims if handling softer ground. ASCOT 1.40 THE FINGAL RAVEN looks a ridiculous price for a horse that ran a cracker at Glorious Goodwood two runs ago. He may well have won that race but for trouble in running. He didn’t take to soft ground when held last time and he’s had a little nudge down the weights. He relishes 7f and it wouldn’t be a shock to see him make the places at massive odds. Thunder Call looks the most progressive runner in the field after a good second here last time. He shapes as though moving up a furlong will suit and he has Group 1 entries for William Haggas later this season. Two Tribes has run well in big races here this term and will enjoy dropping in distance after a solid effort in the Shergar Cup Mile last time out. He’s just 1lb above his last winning mark and should be dangerous. Ghost Mode didn’t enjoy soft ground last time and will be much happier in these conditions. He’s crept up the weights but has place claims along with last-time winner Addison Grey who relishes this trip. 2.10 HEYZOOM can live up to his name. Owen Burrows’ three-year-old caught the eye in a hot Royal Ascot handicap over this trip. He finished fourth of 19 that day, beaten less than three lengths, despite being keen early doors and being hampered two furlongs out. That was just his first handicap start so there should be more to come. He has been gelded since and remains open to improvement from a mark of 90. Archers Bay should go well. He powered clear over C&D last month and could have more to offer over this trip. Decade Of Time is progressing nicely after solid efforts at Newmarket and Goodwood but this is his first attempt beyond 1m2f. Ancestor is another with untapped potential after winning his last two, while Cape Fear arrives on the back of a five-and-a-half-length Windsor romp. Guildmaster finished behind Heyzoom here in June but is better off at the weights this time so the gap could be closer. KEMPTON 2.20 NIKOVO can take this red-hot London Mile final. He bolted up at Newmarket last time when showing good pace over 7f. He sees out this mile strongly and is at home on the all-weather. He has gone up the weights but is only 1lb above his highest winning mark and the booking of Oisin Murphy takes the eye. Cavolo Nero is the big danger. He made it two wins on the spin when scoring nicely over course and distance last month and should have more to come. Victory Ace is chasing a four-timer after thrashing his rivals by more than four lengths here latest. This is tougher from his revised mark but he’s on the upgrade. Warrior Mode is another progressive course-and-distance winner. He hit the line strongly here last time and should have more to offer at a mile. The Liffey won well here in July before going close at Glorious Goodwood. He’s a threat along with Exposure who was just half a length away here last time and looks on a dangerous mark. 2.50 GETHIN can strike back at his favourite track. Forget his Eclipse struggle on rattling-fast ground – his previous neck second in a Group 3 is much more his form. He was an impressive Listed winner here in April and can show more now going up in trip. Constitution Hill is the box-office runner. The jumping superstar is two from two on the Flat and cruised home over course and distance in March. This is a massive class hike but we still don’t know where his ceiling lies on the level. Tornado Alert can figure too. He returned from more than a year off to finish fourth in a Group 1 in Germany. Oisin Murphy and Saeed Bin Suroor have an excellent strike-rate when teaming up. Pride Of Arras is no back number. He bounced back with a cracking Group 2 second at York and stays 1m4f. He hasn’t run on the all-weather before but can figure if taking to the track. Warrant Holder was a good second in a Royal Ascot handicap and stays so could outrun his long odds.
