Horse racing tips: ‘He’s looked every inch a Group horse’ – Templegate aims for THREE winning NAPS in a row at Goodwood

TEMPLEGATE takes on day three of Glorious Goodwood hellbent on bashing the bookies to bits – and looking to make it THREE winning NAPS in a row. Follow him in and back any horse simply by clicking their odds below. ENCELADUS (3.00 Goodwood, nap) Looked every inch a Group horse when winning the King George V at Royal Ascot. He had already caught the eye when opening his account in a Cork maiden. He took another huge leap forward at Ascot, travelling strongly before digging deep to hold off 18 rivals in a race which is already working out well. He is a big, scopey son of legend Sea The Stars and there is surely more to come. He will stay every yard of this longer trip and looks ready to keep climbing the ranks. CUT A DASH (2.25 Goodwood, nb) Won impressively on debut over 5f at York before stepping up again with an excellent fourth in the Coventry, beaten less than a length in a fiercely competitive field after tanking along and finishing well. Today’s 6f clearly suits, fast ground holds no fears and Richard Hannon has a top record at this meeting. This is just his third run and there should be more to come under Sean Levey. MISS YECHANCE (4.10 Goodwood, treble) Can come out on top in this fiercely competitive sprint after after an eventful stable debut at Royal Ascot. She lost a shoe before the Palace of Holyroodhouse yet still finished a respectable seventh, less than two lengths off the winner. That effort came after a good spell in Meydan, where she won over this trip and mixed it with useful company. Now fitter for her first start since joining Karl Burke, she looks capable of taking another step forward from a workable mark of 90. Templegate’s verdicts 1.50 Most read in Horse Racing CIARRAI ABU can continue his rise through the ranks on this first crack beyond a mile. He has won at this tricky track before when catching the eye when fourth on his handicap bow. He backed it up by nailing them late at Ascot three weeks ago over a mile. He travelled like a dream, quickened smartly when switched into the clear and nabbed it on the line despite showing some greenness in the closing stages. That form stacks up and the extra quarter-mile should tease out more from a horse with just five runs on the clock. His pedigree screams this trip and a 6lb rise may not be enough to stop him. Loz Vegas is the one to fear at a big price. He was behind Ciarrai Abu at Ascot but again looked crying out for this distance. He’s had a bit of help from the handicapper and could easily hit the frame. Harmonics is another live player. The Golden Gates proved a brutal introduction to big-field handicaps but his novice wins were eye catching and there is plenty more to come. He’s proven over this trip on fast ground. Decade Of Time comes into the reckoning after a bold handicap debut at Newmarket but he has a difficult draw here. Savvy Disko bids for a hat-trick after two ready wins at Lingfield and is also open to improvement. 2.25 CUT A DASH looks smart in the £200,000 Richmond Stakes. Richard Hannon’s well-bred colt was a good fourth in the Coventry Stakes last time and will relish this test. Today’s 6f clearly suits, fast ground holds no fears and Hannon has a top record at this meeting. This is just his third run and there should be more to come under Sean Levey. Flann Sunna deserves this hike in grade after an eye-catching success at Ascot last time. He clocked a sharp time there and likes quick ground. This is a much deeper Group 2 but he arrives with obvious potential and is a major contender. Night In Vegas is another potential improver in the field after finishing just behind the tip in the Coventry and this is just his third outing. Bay Of Brilliance is the obvious danger if he can forget a dismal German Derby. He has won here before as a juvenile and that counts for plenty at Goodwood. He was beaten only a neck by Group 1 winner Maltese Cross in the Lingfield Derby Trial and ran a fine fourth in the Derby. He deserves another chance. Geryon won his Leopardstown Group 3 in style but he has a penalty to shoulder and this trip may stretch him. Sahara King has been gelded since a modest Royal Ascot run and is another capable of better. Shaihaan has solid Group form and cannot be dismissed if he sees out this trip better than he did in the Irish Derby but that’s not a given. Venetian Lace looks more of a miler to me having failed to stay the last twice. 3.35 DIAMOND NECKLACE can make it four Group 1 wins on the spin in the Nassau. She was brilliant when taking the French Guineas over a mile and saw this trip out well in their Oaks last time. She showed plenty of determination to maintain her perfect record at Chantilly and still looks capable of better. Aidan O’Brien has an excellent record in this race and she’s the one to beat and the fast ground will suit. Friendly Soul looked as good as ever when an unlucky third in the Duke of Cambridge at Royal Ascot, repeatedly denied a clear run before finishing strongly. A Group 1 winner over this sort of trip, she should be all the better for that comeback effort and is the main danger if enjoying a smoother passage See The Fire has two wins already this season, including another Middleton Stakes at York, before finding the Prince of Wales’s at Royal Ascot too demanding. She has strong form against her own sex and has gone close in this race before but is none from 13 at this level. 4.10 MISS YECHANCE can come out on top in this fiercely competitive sprint after after an eventful stable debut at Royal Ascot. Pilu is feared most. His Leicester second is strong form and he ran well at Newmarket last time despite lacking luck. The drop back to the minimum could suit, especially as the fierce pace should bring his stamina into play. Schrodinger’s Cat has been admirably consistent in strong sprint handicaps, going close at York before another excellent effort at Ascot and should be thereabouts. Naana’s Shadow has already won three handicaps this season and was far from disgraced in Listed company last time, while Quantum Power arrives chasing a four-timer after another battling success at Newmarket last time. Course-and-distance winner One And Gone is another progressive sprinter who commands respect despite another rise in the weights. He looked a real battler at Sandown last time. 4.45 MY A’ALI BABA looks a standout each-way bet and is taken to spring a surprise in this wide-open nursery. He made a winning debut at Chepstow before finding the ground too soft here in June. His latest third at Sandown showed promise as he stuck on strongly despite being keen early. He was just over a length behind Cilician (who has an each-way shout again) and the booking of Colin Keane by canny veteran trainer David Evans catches the eye. He has a decent draw and should run well. Shadow King commands obvious respect after making a successful nursery debut at Doncaster. There’s more to come and he’ll go close under a penalty. The Bookkeeper has always looked a colt with plenty of potential and should appreciate the return to 7f after shaping encouragingly in the Woodcote over shorter at Epsom. It’s a plus that Ryan Moore stays on board. Mia Fantasia appeals as the type to improve in handicaps after chasing home Dr Rascal – who won the Vintage Stakes on Tuesday – at Ascot last time. Oisin Murphy is always worth a look when riding for Hugo Palmer. Wise And Wonderful is another unexposed contender after opening her account at Epsom and is bred to improve with time. 5.20 SO LOVELY sets the standard on what she did at Leopardstown and can land this valuable maiden for Aidan O’Brien. She is by Wootton Bassett out of dual Classic winner Love and caught the eye when second over a mile on debut. She was up against a more experienced rival who got the run of the race, yet picked up strongly once the penny dropped. The drop back to 7f will hold no fears and Ryan Moore takes over. Avalon Queen is the main threat after two promising runs at Newbury. She was doing her best work late over an inadequate 6f and met trouble too. The step up to 7f looks sure to suit. Elevating demands respect after a fine debut second in a valuable York novice. She travelled kindly and stayed on well behind an experienced winner. She should find more for that run and the extra furlong. Beguiled is an intriguing newcomer for a Gosden yard red hot with juvenile debutants this month. 5.55 I’M keeping everything crossed that GET OUTTA HERE gets a bit of luck in running as he’s the most talented horse in the race but likes to come from behind. He ran a cracker here two starts ago when beaten in a head-bobber by Annastarzy who ran well here earlier this week. He was then blocked a couple of times when trying to challenge at York last time. We know exactly what we’re going to get with Jamie Spencer in the saddle but he was on board for his last win at Lingfield in May. Go Rimbaud has been in excellent form on the all-weather with wins at Kempton and Wolverhampton. He needs to prove he can repeat that on turf now. Exclusive Code was snookered by the draw in the Britannia at Royal Ascot after winning a big-field maiden at Newbury on comeback. He is lightly raced and should have more to come. Abundant was a good third here last month and followed up with another placed effort at Ascot. It would be no surprise to see him on the podium again. Law Court may not have stayed 1m1f at Sandown last time and is worth another chance, while Runswick won easily at Carlisle and is in the picture too.
