Horse racing tips: ‘An extraordinary filly for a top trainer and owner who targets this race’ – Templegate’s NAP

TEMPLEGATE tackles a cracking day two of the York Ebor festival confident of making it one to forget for the bookies. Follow our man – whose NB and treble won on day one – in and back a horse by clicking their odds below. STAR OF STATE (1.50 York, nap) Can keep up owner Jaber Abdullah’s fantastic record in the Lowther. He has won this five times and sent out the second 12 months ago so clearly targets this classy contest. This year’s hopeful looked something out of the ordinary when winning a Leopardstown maiden by nine lengths last month. Dylan McMonagle barely had to push her out to record that margin and it could have been a lot more. This is clearly a hike in grade but trainer Joseph O’Brien is having a fine season and there’s more to come. MORROPHORE (4.10 York, nb) Looks all set to bring her strong all-weather form to turf under Ryan Moore. We haven’t seen this Kingman mare since January when she took the tough Winter Oaks handicap on the sand at Lingfield. That was over 1m2f but she finished strongly and could come into her own this season upped to this distance. The Gosdens have been patient with her and that can pay dividends with this nice prize. MIA FANTASIA (4.45 York, treble) He was sent off favourite for a hot nursery at Goodwood last time but had shocking luck in running. He was poorly drawn and met all kinds of trouble in what was a modest ride from Oisin Murphy. Marco Ghiani takes over today and will hopefully get better luck as his form is more than strong enough to take this. He has won this five times and sent out the second 12 months ago so clearly targets this classy contest. Dylan McMonagle barely had to push her out to record that margin and it could have been a lot more. This is clearly a hike in grade but trainer Joseph O’Brien is having a fine season and there’s more to come from this filly. Libertango saw off 24 rivals to win the Albany at Royal Ascot and went close upped to Group 3 level at Newmarket last time. She wouldn’t want too much rain but looks a threat. Wild Blossom stormed home over 5f at Glorious Goodwood and will be a threat if seeing out the extra furlong. Livenka looked a likely York type when winning from the front at Naas last time and is an each-way price. Ruby Moon ran well behind Libertango at HQ on just her second start and is another with a lot more to come. 2.25 SATELLITE OF LOVE has copped a good low draw and trainer Clive Cox has won the past three runnings of this hot sprint. He struck on debut at Windsor before a big step up to score at Newbury last time. He likes this trip and still looked a bit green so has a lot more in his locker. Sun Goddess sets the standard after winning the Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at The Curragh earlier this month. The draw in stall 17 just puts you off as six of the past seven have been low. Her sheer class may see her home though for Aidan O’Brien. Tokaido has been in fine form across the Channel and took a Chantilly Group 2 easily last time. Having to give weight away makes life a bit tougher but this trip suits. At a price, Quillan looks the type to improve for this step up in trip after a game win at Ripon latest. Innichen did well to go close in a big nursery at Goodwood last time after missing the break. He needs a lot more in this grade but is going the right way. 3.00 CENTIGRADE looks hot for Rossa Ryan and Ralph Beckett. He’s not been the easiest to get on the racetrack but looked a nice prospect when returning from 20 months off to win easily at Southwell last time out. Beckett has wisely given him 63 days off since and some of the horses he’s beaten have gone on to be Group-class performers. He isn’t exactly chucked in on this handicap debut from a mark of 102 but he has by far the most potential in the field and will enjoy this trip. Bullet Point hasn’t won since taking this race 12 months ago but that means he’s just 1lb higher this time. He was a solid second at Ascot last time and is right in the hunt again. The Lost King won nicely over C&D last month and a 6lb rise looks fair enough. He tanked a long and looks a big price to make the frame at least. Cerulean Bay was second in this 12 months ago and ran a cracker when second at Glorious Goodwood. He is better than we saw at Ascot last time out. Mezcala often runs well in these big fields and is another with place prospects along with in-form Aalto. 3.35 KALPANA can add to her Group 1 tally in the Yorkshire Oaks. Andrew Balding’s filly comes here at the top of her game following a superb King George success, where she travelled sweetly before putting Calandagan away. Her earlier Hardwicke near-miss and Newbury Group 3 victory were classy efforts and she goes on any ground. Colin Keane can steer her home. Johanna Walsh could give her most to think about. Joseph O’Brien’s improving three-year-old took her form to another level when running away with the Irish Oaks and the 9lb she receives from the older fillies makes her dangerous. Minnie Hauk has the class to figure, including victory in this contest last year, but needs to leave her poor King George run well behind. Tattycoram arrives on a steep upward curve following an emphatic Group 2 success, though this demands considerably more, while Legacy Link is interesting back here after winning the Musidora in May. 4.10 MORROPHORE can bring his strong all-weather form to turf under Ryan Moore. Rhapsody is another who could show more for going up in distance and she already has a York win on her CV over 1m1f last season. She was a solid second in a Curragh Group 3 last time so looks up to this standard. A La Prochaine was last seen finishing fourth in the Oaks at Epsom on soft ground. She didn’t enjoy that tricky track and should do better here on what should be more suitable ground too. Vauntingly was beaten on the nod in a Gowran Listed contest when she proved her stamina for this trip. A repeat of that could see her in the frame. Without Prejudice made a promising start when winning on debut at Newmarket and it’s telling that the Gosdens hike her in class straight away.
