As other racers continued at full speed, Fraga’s Nakajima Racing car landed on its roof, rolled over, hit the side, and then flipped. It continued to slide after landing with the wheels falling off and bits of the body ripped apart. The race was immediately stopped as cars drove past near the starting line. It had already been operating under safety car conditions due to a wet track. The ground was soaked after pre-race rain – but things got better before Fraga’s shocking accident. He hit Akimasa Takaboshi as the two battled it out for a position. Remarkably, Fraga escaped without any serious injuries. Drivers could be seen talking about the incident as Takaboshi and Bertrand Baguette chatted. Baguette had been next to Takaboshi and knocked him before the impact with Fraga as the cars accelerated down a straight. He later wrote online: “First of all, I’m relieved to know that Igor is okay after such a scary crash and that nobody else was injured. “I was moving to the right-hand side of the track when I was surprised by car #23 slowing down to avoid overtaking car #64 before the line. We’ll come back stronger.” Comment now
