The man was told off by a pedestrian when he failed to slow down at a zebra crossing in Spain and nearly hit the couple on it. But instead of apologising, the irate motorist launched a horrifying attack on the stranger who had confronted him. He got out of his car, opened the boot and grabbed a metal fishing hook before driving it into the pedestrian’s arm. He then used the handle to hook the injured man to a metal railing, leaving him unable to move, before allegedly fleeing the scene. The shocking attack unfolded in front of stunned residents and tourists in Granada. The driver has since been arrested and remanded in custody in prison pending further proceedings. Most read in The Sun A police spokesman confirmed the horrifying details of the attack. “He stuck the hook in his arm and, with the hook handle itself, left him attached to a railing, preventing him from moving,” the spokesman said. The pair were properly crossing when the driver allegedly failed to slow down and almost ran them over. The male pedestrian then challenged the motorist, apparently expecting an apology for the near miss. Instead, the driver got out of his vehicle and opened the trunk. He then grabbed a metal fishing gaff and, without a word, launched the brutal assault. The hook was driven into the man’s arm before the driver used it to pin him against the railing. The injured pedestrian was initially treated at the scene by 061 medical personnel. But firefighters had to race in with bolt cutters to free him from the terrifying trap. They cut through the hook before the victim was taken to hospital with part of the metal still embedded in his arm. Doctors then had to remove the remaining piece of metal. Police launched a rapid investigation after being given the vehicle’s licence plate. Officers first identified the registered owner before allegedly identifying the suspected attacker, who lives in Granada capital. A statement from Granada police said: “A dispute at a pedestrian crossing in Granada ended with a man injured and tethered to a railing. “Around 10.45pm, one of our support unit teams responded to a call regarding an assault in the Lancha del Genil neighborhood… “A couple were properly crossing the street at a pedestrian crossing when a car nearly ran them over. “The male pedestrian challenged the driver, perhaps expecting an apology. “The response was quite different… The driver got out of the car, opened the trunk, took out a metal fishing gaff, and without a second thought, approached the pedestrian to attack him. He drove the hook into the man’s arm and used the handle to pin him to a railing, preventing him from moving. “Medical personnel (@ces061granada) treated the injured man at the scene, but the fire department (@bomberosgranada) had to intervene, using bolt cutters to cut the hook and free him. He was taken to the hospital with part of the metal still embedded in his arm for extraction. “Rapid investigative work by our #GAPB unit allowed us to identify the vehicle’s registered owner”thanks to the license plate provided”and subsequently the alleged attacker, a local resident who will now have to answer in court for the injuries caused. “A traffic dispute should never end in an assault.” The suspect could face a charge of aggravated injuries for allegedly using a dangerous object during the attack. He could also face a possible charge of illegal detention or coercion. The final severity of the charges will depend on medical reports detailing the pedestrian’s injuries, as well as assessments by the Prosecutor’s Office and judge. Comment now
