HOMES have been evacuated and roads locked down as a bomb squad searches a property in a UK city. A police cordon was first erected around the property in Sheffield on Tuesday, but cops have said it will remain in place “throughout today” – with families having to stay at a nearby rest centre. No injuries have been reported, but other emergency services remain at the scene as a precaution. Residents who were advised to leave their homes were directed to a nearby shelter. Road closures remain in place on Mapplebeck Road, Griffiths Road, School Road, Green Gate Lane, Worrall Road, Beechwood Road, Hawthorne Road, Entwhistle Road and Greenwood Road. Cops have extended sympathies to residents who were forced to evacuate the area and thanked them for their patience. A spokesperson said: “The police cordon on Mapplebeck Road, High Green, is expected to remain in place throughout today while emergency services and specialist agencies continue their work to ensure the affected property and surrounding homes are safe.
