He kindly signed autographs while showing off his incredible 200lb weight loss. Most read in Showbiz Before his transformation, John weighed about 400lb but now he’s down to 200. In 2021, John made one of his first appearances after his weight loss at the premiere of the animated show The Freak Brothers on Tubi. He started to overhaul his lifestyle in 2017, and that’s when he started dropping weight. Although his weight fluctuated for years, he seems to have finally found the trick to stabilizing it. When he started his weight loss journey, he spoke to ABC News about his new approach. He admitted that he used to lose 60 or 70 pounds in three months and then revert to his old habits. When he started losing weight in 2017, he decided to do it slowly and focus on exercising. He previously told the Guardian: ‘It was 30 years of a disease that was taking its toll on everyone around me and it had got to the point where, every time I did it, it was becoming more and more debilitating. It was life or death, It was time to stop.’ John also adopted a Mediterranean diet that focused on fish, olive oil, fruit, vegetables, and nuts. Plus, the actor decided to hire a personal trainer Mackie Shilstone while walking 10,000 steps a day. He said: “It takes a lot of creative energy to sit on your a** and figure out what you’re going to eat next.” John told AARP magazine that his weight loss was partly down to “portion control”. He said: “But I don’t want to be an example to anybody when the weight comes thundering back on – when I start eating Crisco out of the can with a spoon and a side of confectioner’s sugar.” John has also been sober since 2007 which seemed to be the start of his healthy lifestyle. Since the weight loss, he’s been practically unrecognisable. In 2025, he showed off his slimmer frame as he attended the Smurfs premiere in Los Angeles, California. In the film, he provided the voice for the iconic leader Papa Smurf. Comment now
