The kit is a ceramic cat blank that arrives with six paints and a brush, so there’s nothing else to buy before a child can start. Struggling to entertain the kids this school holiday? The Hobbycraft cat could be the perfect activity Paint Your Own Cat Money Box: £2.50 (was £5) at Hobbycraft It holds a 4.7-star average from 83 reviews on Hobbycraft’s site, with value and appearance both scoring 4.9 out of 5. Sign up for the Money newsletter Thank you! The money box is £2.50, reduced from £5, and measures roughly 8 x 7 x 12cm – small enough to live on a windowsill without taking over the room. The cat doesn’t need firing afterwards, either, which is usually what rules ceramic kits out for home use. A coat of varnish is all it takes to make the finish last (though that isn’t included). The base has a rubber seal rather than the smash-it-open design older money boxes used, so change can be collected without breaking the thing – and one reviewer called it “a very well made little money box” on that basis. Another said their daughter “really enjoyed painting this”. The most consistent criticism across the reviews is directed at the paint and brush: one four reviewer said the brush provided was “not fit for purpose”, while another said that the “only problem with these is not enough paint”. Before you order, it’s worth knowing Hobbycraft’s free standard delivery kicks in at £25, so a single £2.50 money box will incur a postage charge unless you add more to the basket or collect in store. You could easily get to the free delivery threshold by adding some of Hobbycraft’s other kid-friendly deals.
