Himachal on edge as monsoon fury leaves 157 dead, landslides shut 260 roadsHimachal Pradesh's monsoon misery is deepening by the day, with as many as 259 roads blocked across the state and landslides and rain-related incidents claiming 157 lives. Nearly 900 properties and public works have been damaged amid the relentless rainfall, with losses estimated around Rs 886 crore, according to the latest State Emergency Operations Centre (SEOC) report.As per the report, which covers the period from June 30 to August 9, around 68 people died due to landslides and flash floods, while 89 others were killed in road accidents. Around 257 people are missing. The troubles for Himachal, however, seem to be far from over as the IMD has issued an orange alert for heavy rain in five districts.Power supplies have also taken a hit across the state, with Kullu and Mandi districts being the worst hit. Around 161 distribution transformers (DTRs) have been rendered non-functional for over a week. Mandi accounts for the highest number at 77, followed by Shimla with 43 and Kullu with 40.The incessant rain, an annual affair at this time in Himachal, has led to a sudden rise in water levels in rivers and streams across Kullu.
