Even though there won't be any new episodes of the hit ABC procedural until early next year, there is no shortage of discussion about where High Potential season 3 could go next. The biggest topic is likely to be how the show chooses to write off Captain Wagner, with Steve Howey exiting the role after a short stint. There are also shifts behind the scenes. Long-time showrunner and executive producer Todd Harthan is stepping away from High Potential to develop other projects under the Disney umbrella. He'll be succeeded by Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, who previously worked on the Riann Johnson and Natasha Lyonne murder mystery Poker Face and will next write Scream 8. But the biggest shock of High Potential's off-season could just be a new set photo of actor Daniel Sunjata showing off his blonde hair via Instagram Stories and posts. Sunjata portrays Detective Adam Karadec, the no-nonsense partner to Kaitlin Olson's Morgan Gillory, and it's not entirely clear why he would be going through such a drastic and sudden appearance overhaul. The two photos, included in the gallery above, can be explained in a few ways. It might be a new look for Sunjata that will be covered up by the show's crew when it comes time to film. But if the alteration is related to Karadec, it could be the case that he's gone undercover. Alternatively, it might be a sign that he lost some bet with Morgan. Whatever the reason, it wouldn't be so jarring if Karadec wasn't defined by his opposition to Morgan. She's the type to happily try on new looks, maybe even in the middle of an investigation, while Karadec is fairly straightforward. Over the course of two seasons, High Potential has tried to evolve those binary characterizations, but only so much. It'd still be totally unexpected for Karadec to appear on-screen with blonde locks. The procedural, which is an adaptation of the French show HPI, is currently filming. High Potential cast members Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Matthew Lamb, and Judy Reyes will be back alongside Olson and Sunjata. As the process moves forward, we're likely to get more insight into what season 3 looks like. New episodes are being delayed as part of a strategic scheduling move by ABC execs to allow the upcoming season to play out without the long breaks and hiatuses that occurred in the show's first two years. On the bright side, viewers have a possible Karadec mystery to chat about, along with all those questions about Morgan's ex-boyfriend, Roman. High Potential is available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu.
