‘He’s Amazing’: Indiana’s Charlie Becker Praises God After Comeback Win

Indiana Hoosiers wide receiver Charlie Becker had a stunning performance in his team’s comeback overtime victory against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Saturday. But rather than take the glory for himself, the young athlete gave it all to God. “First off … The God I serve is so remarkable. He’s amazing,” Becker told CBS Sports in a post-game interview. “It’s so easy to say that when we’re coming out here and we’re winning football games and we’re doing good. But … it’s really in those hard times, in those dark moments where God’s walking right with you, and He loves you so much.” To characterize Becker and his team’s comeback win as jaw-dropping would be an understatement. After the then-No. 4 Hoosiers kicked a field goal to tie the game 13-13 with 3:05 remaining in the game, the unranked Golden Gophers moved down the field with ease to give kicker Luke Drzewiecki a chance to get the go-ahead score. Drzewiecki proceeded to do just that, drilling a 60-yard field goal to put Minnesota up 16-13 with 19 seconds left. As if lifted from an old-school sports movie, Hoosiers backup quarterback Grant Wilson threw a 33-yard bomb to Becker, who stepped out of bounds at Minnesota’s 42-yard line to stop the clock. The major play gave Indiana kicker Paddy McAteer enough yards to nail a 60-yard field goal as time expired and send the game to overtime. From there, it was all Indiana. On the first play of OT, Wilson hit Becker for a 25-yard touchdown pass to put the Hoosiers up 23-16. With the Golden Gophers unable to respond in their following possession, Indiana walked away with the win. “First off…The God I serve is so remarkable. He’s amazing. The Indiana receiver — who has 1 Corinthians 16:13 in his Instagram bio — previously praised God after the Hoosiers’ win over the Ohio State Buckeyes in the 2025 Big Ten Championship game. “All glory to God. Without Him, none of this would be possible, so all glory to Him,” Becker told Fox Sports. Becker more recently discussed how “God is everything” for he and his family during an interview with CBN Sports earlier this year. In praising “the amazing things that He’s done” and “the gifts that He’s given me,” the junior receiver said that “it’s a blessing to be on this kind of stage and promoting Him.” Shawn Fleetwood is a staff writer for The Federalist and a graduate of the University of Mary Washington.
