‘He’s a future England manager’ – Jamie Carragher heaps praise on Premier League boss on first day of new season

JAMIE CARRAGHER has insisted Frank Lampard will be a future manager of England. But since then the 48-year-old has turned a corner in his managerial career after successfully guiding Coventry to Premier League promotion. Carragher told Sky Sports: “It’s a rollercoaster – being a player or manager. Unless you are the absolute elite and you seem to win every week or do really well. “For me what Frank Lampard has done is come back from a couple of knocks and shown he’s a really good manager. “But I think he’s a future England manager, I really do. “I think the England manager should be English, that’s why I’m saying that as well. “But when you think of where he’s managed; he’s been in the Championship, he kept Everton up, very close to bringing Derby up, even at Chelsea he did brilliantly in his first season then came back and I was commentating on that game and it was hard to watch. He said before facing the English champions: “The last thing I would like to have after a game against Arsenal – or any team like this – is a regret of our approach and that we didn’t give it everything. “If we can do that as a team, then we will compete in this league and show teams what we are. “If we don’t, we’ll be disappointed. I’ll remind the players of that [before the game]. “I want to show in our performance and in how we approach the game that we haven’t come into it with any kind of fear. “We respect Arsenal greatly, but it doesn’t mean you play with too much respect and you’re passive. “I want us to go there with the right mentality and approach the game in the right way.” However, Lampard’s team had to endure an early baptism of fire at the Emirates after going 2-0 down inside 25 minutes.
