Flames and thick gray smoke billowed from the facility on the 1800 block of Mountain Street, prompting Alex to rush outside and see what was unfolding. 'I ran outside and I was looking at the front door when I saw the nurse outside and she was screaming for help,' Alex told KTLA.Narek followed, and the brothers soon realized multiple people were trapped inside. The 15-year-old said he first grabbed a hose to fight the flames, but the fire grew and the cries for help intensified. Before firefighters arrived, the brothers made a risky choice: they went inside themselves. 'I go inside this big room and I see all these old people on the floor with catheters,' Alex told the outlet.'Some people were injured, had blood on their legs. We just took everybody out one by one,' he added. There was smoke everywhere. I was pretty much blinded by the smoke,' the 15-year-old added.Two more neighbors raced to the burning building, helping bring all six elders to safety on the front lawn before first responders arrived. The cause of the fire is under investigation, and the Glendale Fire Department chief told the outlet an oxygen tank likely exploded, causing part of the home to collapse.Firefighters eventually put out the blaze before it spread to nearby homes.
