2 min readRyan Murphy is back with a bang. He’s been on an ... odd and inconsistent streak in the past couple years. (All’s Fair into The Beauty into Love Story was a real whiplash of quality.) But The Shards—his newest FX and Hulu series adapted from the acclaimed Bret Easton Ellis novel of the same name—looks very promising. In the vivid setting of 1980s rich-kid Los Angeles, the show revolves around Bret, an aspiring writer, and his social circle at an elite prep school. Their privileged world of beauty, wealth, and excess is turned upside down with the arrival of Robert Mallory, a peculiar and mysterious new student whose sudden appearance happens to coincide with the crimes of the Trawler, a serial killer attacking teens across the city.Murphy’s also enlisted an impressive cast of next-gen talent, including the likes of Kaia Gerber (Bottoms), Igby Rigney (Midnight Mass), and Homer Gere (Euphoria)—yes, son of Richard. It’s set to be twisty, bloody, and excessive, in classic Ryan Murphy fashion, and given the strength of the source material, we’ve got high hopes for this one. But when can you watch it?Fortunately, it won’t be a long wait—the first two episodes of The Shards arrive on August 6, and the rest will drop weekly on Thursdays at 9:00 p.m. ET on FX and Hulu. The first season will be nine episodes long, and some days will see two episodes air instead of one.
