Here’s Why Kylie Kelce Just Issued a Public Apology to Kate Middleton

Kylie Kelce has issued a public apology to Kate Middleton for referring to her as “Princess Kate” on her Not Gonna Lie podcast.“I love learning, so I was unaware that calling Princess Catherine Princess Kate was offensive,” Kylie said. “I didn’t know that. Now I know that. Now I will proceed accordingly. I apologize for the mistake. I would like to refer to people in the most respectful way and how they feel respected. Princess Catherine or the Princess of Wales, I apologize. I will get that sorted immediately starting now.”In an episode last week, Kylie said “Princess Kate, Duchess of Cambridge, if you ever wanted to come on and chitchat about some field hockey and maybe kids. I don’t know. We got a couple things in common.”So…is there a problem with calling Kate Middleton “Princess Kate”?Her Royal Highness officially goes by Catherine, Princess of Wales, but “Kate Middleton” started being used widely by the media when she and Prince William first started dating. In 2016, The Daily Mail’s royal expert Rebecca English told Vanity Fair that reporters were asked to start using “Catherine” ahead of the royal wedding, explaining “Interestingly, in the run up to the 2011 royal wedding, senior members of the palace P.R. team encouraged us in the British media to refer to Kate as ‘Catherine.’ I think they thought it was more formal, more dignified, more royal. And to be fair, it is the name her family refers to her by. Needless to say, though, they were pretty much ignored!”Meanwhile, family and friends call the Princess of Wales “Catherine,” but a source told the Daily Mail that she isn’t really bothered either way, explaining “It doesn't irritate her, even when the photographers shout her name out. She's not so precious as to correct them.”That’s that on that!
