BJP tells Karnataka Chief Minister to prove Form 7 allegations or quit“Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar should prove his allegations that the BJP had misused Form-7 applications to seek the deletion of eligible voters from electoral rolls,” BJP State unit president B.Y. Vijayendra said on October 2. He demanded the Chief Minister’s resignation if he fails to do so. “We (BJP) will not be afraid even if 1,000 FIRs are filed against us. We will fight the cases in court,” Mr. Vijayendra said, accusing the Chief Minister of attempting to turn Karnataka into an ‘FIR State’.On October 1. Mr. Shivakumar, accompanied by Cabinet colleagues, staged a protest in front of the office of the Chief Electoral Officer in Bengaluru demanding an investigation into the filing of Form 7 applications in bulk seeking the deletion of voters, particularly from Muslim, Dalit and backward-class communities. Mr. Shivakumar had alleged that ‘pre-filled’ forms containing voters’ details had been submitted in several constituencies as part of a ‘conspiracy’ to remove eligible voters from the rolls.2. BJP sought scrutiny not deletion of voters: Karnataka MLABJP leaders in Belagavi stated that they had not violated any rule when they submitted third-party objections using Form 7 during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Karnataka. “We believe that we have not violated any rule. However, if during scrutiny of our applications, officials conclude that we have made any mistake, let them reject our applications,” Abhay Patil, MLA and BJP leader, told reporters on October 2.He denied allegations that BJP’s Booth Level Agents had violated rules regarding submission of third-party objections to inclusion of names. “Congress leaders are accusing us of targeting Muslim voters. That is false. We have not targetted anyone. Our ground-level workers have noticed every suspect voter, and reported them to the respective BLAs. They have objected to the inclusion of dead, shifted, absent, duplicate and other suspect voters,” Mr. Patil said.3. KSCA seeks 50 acres of land in Mangaluru to develop cricket infrastructure, writes to MUDAThe Karnataka State Cricket Association has sought 50 acres of government land for development of cricket infrastructure in Mangaluru. In his October 1 letter to Santosh Kumar Shetty, Chairperson of Mangaluru Urban Development Authority, the honorary president of KSCA B. K. Venkatesh Prasad said that the land can be allotted on an outright purchase basis, or on a 50-year lease.“Mangaluru being a district headquarters, there is necessity to have adequate cricketing infrastructure and cricketing facilities to cater to the need of budding cricketers to showcase their potential talent...” Mr. Prasad stated.
