Every now and then pop culture and sports collide. Rap superstar Rod Wave has been involved in sports for a few years now, and on Wednesday his agency announced a major move. It has signed Arkansas true freshman basketball star Abdou Toure. Rod Wave announced the signing on Instagram, hailing its deal with the Arkansas “phenom.” Toure was a Five-Star Plus+ prospect in the 2026 recruiting class and is part of a loaded freshman class for the Hogs. Rod Wave learned of Toure from his agency team and was impressed. “I believe he’s a superstar talent, and a superstar person,” Green told ESPN in a statement. “I love his family, and he trusts and believes in me the same as I believe in him. I take that seriously, it’s an honor.” Abdou Toure checks in at 6 foot 5, 200 pounds. He’s expected to be a major contributor in the backcourt for John Calipari and his Arkansas squad this college basketball season. Coming out of AAU ball with BABC (MA), Toure averaged 15.4 points and 5.1 rebounds per game in his final summer season. He also commented on the partnership with Rod Wave. “He was honest from Day 1 with me,” Toure told ESPN. “He also understood the family and trust part, which is extremely important to me and wanting to grow and learn things from each other.” Arkansas freshmen could make some noise Along with Abdou Toure, Arkansas signed Five-Star Plus+ guard Jordan Smith Jr., four-star forward Miikka Muurinen, four-star guard JJ Andrews, four-star guard Davion Thompson and four-star center Caleb Ourigou. It’s an absolutely loaded class on paper. There aren’t many returning collegiate players, with Billy Richmond III and Georgia transfer Jeremiah Wilkinson expected to provide the veteran leadership for the Hogs. The latter is already seeing the impact the freshman class, highlighted by Abdou Toure, can have on this season. He opened up on it recently to HawgBeat. “They keep me young for sure,” Wilkinson told HawgBeat recently. “If that means off the court, doing some things I don’t really want to do, getting out of my comfort zone a little bit — because I’m kind of a quiet guy, I’m comfortable just sitting in the house. “Whether that’s just going and doing some things with them sometimes, or just being there for them when they’re going through something hard, on the court, off the court, whether it’s basketball or non-basketball, I have to take a really big leader role this year. I have to be there for everybody. I love the role that I’m in, I love helping everybody, I love my teammates, so they make it easy for me.”
