EXCLUSIVE: A series of events have been set in Paris and New York to celebrate the centenary of the publication of Ernest Hemingway classic The Sun Also Rises. The celebration begins September 21 and 22 at Ritz Paris, with guests including filmmaker Michael Winterbottom, who is set to direct the upcoming A Farewell To Arms film with Tom Blyth, fashion photographer Ellen von Unwerth, novelist and author Jay McInerney, and British singer-songwriter Westerman among those set to attend. On October 22, the 100th anniversary of the publication of The Sun Also Rises, Hemingway Ltd. and 92NY (The 92nd Street Y) will present a centennial evening featuring panel discussions, literary figures and readings from Hemingway’s work. Two-time Oscar nominee Michael Shannon and Emmy winner Richard Schiff are among those set to participate, with additional names being finalized. A further New York celebration is planned at The Morgan Library & Museum, where Hemingway Ltd. will host a centennial dinner. Watch on Deadline The global program is being led by Collective 222, Agency of Record for Hemingway Ltd., as it expands the Hemingway brand across film and TV development, publishing, international licensing, hospitality, cultural programming and strategic partnerships. Additional international events and programming are in the works. Alongside the centennial, Collective 222 has appointed Jane Owen PR to lead global public relations for the company and its representation of the Hemingway brand. The appointment brings a fun historical connection: Owen is the great-granddaughter of legendary Scribner editor Maxwell Perkins, whose editorial partnership with Hemingway helped shape The Sun Also Rises (and other works) before its publication in 1926. First published by Scribner in 1926, The Sun Also Rises follows American journalist Jake Barnes and a circle of expatriates traveling from Paris to Pamplona in the years following the First World War. Widely regarded as the defining novel of the Lost Generation, it remains one of the most influential works of modern literature. The book spawned multiple screen adaptations including a 1957 film with Tyrone Power, Ava Gardner and Errol Flynn, and a 1984 miniseries with Jane Seymour, Robert Carradine, Leonard Nimoy and Hart Bochner.
