Outside of Warbonds, smaller updates, and the not-so-occasional controversial patch, it’s been a while since Helldivers 2 last had a major update. That all changes today with Devoid of Liberty, which brings a ton of new content into the game as Helldivers are tasked with venturing into the Void and liberating it. It was already clear from last year’s Xbox port that PlayStation wants Helldivers 2 to reach as many players as possible and keep having a massive community, but that’s just gone one step further today. Alongside the Devoid of Liberty update, Helldivers 2 is now going to be completely free for PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium players on PS5. It’s Not “Free”, But You Know What We Mean Arrowhead Earlier today, the PlayStation Blog shared a post detailing the Devoid of Liberty update and everything that it’s bringing to Helldivers 2. That post came with the surprising reveal that Helldivers 2 is being added to the PlayStation Plus Game Catalogue, making it free to own for a bunch of new players. That being said, Helldivers 2 is only available to PlayStation Plus Extra and PlayStation Plus Premium members, so you do need to be one tier up from the Essential tier that most players have. Even with that caveat in mind, Helldivers 2 is still a big addition to the PS Plus library, and one that might just tempt in even more players. For reference, PlayStation Plus Extra, the lowest tier you’ll need to be in to get Helldivers 2 for free, starts at $16.99 a month compared to Essential’s $10.99. It’s up to you whether the extra money is worth it, but the PS Plus game catalogue is pretty stacked as it is, and Helldivers 2 is certainly a good incentive with its latest update adding plenty of content.
